Transfer / Filter Pump - 03/06/10 05:28 PM

Is it standard practice to leave on a portable transfer/filter pump recirculating oil in a hydraulic tank for more than 24 hours to filter out debri?

It may not be "standard" but it can help a bad situation. The only
issue would be that the pump might disconnect from the tank and make a mess

we have had several situations where this solved contaminated oil problems. Even the one where the cleaning lady thought the tank was the trash compactor!!!! We will wire the pick up and discharge hoses in place and let the car run.

Best one I ever saw was the painters painting the machine room... Lid was off the tank while the constructors were adjuating the unit for inspection...

Painter fell off the ladder and a bucket of oil based paint landed in the tank...

"HMNN, OIL... OIL BASED PAINT... SCREW IT, RUN HER "... that lasted 2 trips...

$10K later... it was running again...

pumped out 3 and let her run for 24 hours on these 3 units... oil is like new, viscosity is great... no more valve issues...
