Tac 20-03 no down high speed

Tac 20-03 no down high speed - 11/19/13 03:42 PM

I have a tac 20-03 that is giving me problems. It runs down on slow speed and it's momentarily pulling in vc3a and vc3b and dropping it. I don't have an ims CPU anymore so it's a little more tricky. It appears selector is doing everything as it should. All other relays seem to be doing the norm. It appears that it is constantly getting a down slow signal. All I have are a set of prints. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a magnet in the wrong place or lane check your tape guides .

Did you ever have the IMS comp? Can you just borrow it from someone at your company?

Magnets seem to be in right place. Job has been running in hotel for years. I used to have an ims CPU when I was with TKE. Now I have a world tool for DMC and miprom. I would like to buy a CPU with ims on it if I could find one that I knew worked and it had no expiration date. As far as I know ims CPUs are still unavailable except for the black market. Is that still true

The customer can buy one from the krauts and it's tied to the building
Ie can't be used anywhere else

Replace the "k" relays feeding high speed, maybe faulty

Its most likely magnets that moved into down slow down lane. Check back of tape for term slowdowns as you know tac 20's dont have actual term sw's. Make sure the mags on the back of tape are aligned w/ no gaps in between mags.

Have you checked all your solenoids?

do you have magnets on the back of the tape? if so make sure they have NO spacing between them. i have had issues before. also take out the little ice cube relays and smack them on the wall a couple of times this will reset the armature.....sounds odd but when they first came out that is what tech support had us doing, now you can order ones with "gold" tips. sometimes i think the tech's are just shooting from the hip hoping they get something right....LOL

ok went back to job and checked selector/magnet alignment and swapped all relays that could have been part of this problem. basically just tried to move the problem as i didn't have any of those type relays with me. however problem continued. I remembered that at some point i should lose the voltage on ntsb as it fires low. As it turns out i was never firing ntsb. i jumped it out and it worked. high speed was back so i took jumper off and its still working. my guess is something has moved very slightly and a new terminal back up scan is in order. without a cpu w/ ims and possibly an adj. manual I'm still flying blind. i am contacting liftwares tomorrow re ims

Does this have a tape head, and if so what condition are the guide shoes in?
