KCM 831 Door detector question - 06/25/14 03:44 AM

I have a KCM831 monospace, with a detector edge that says COL, or curtain of light. Center opening doors, the detectors mount at the back of the sill on both sides, and do not move. my question is how in the hell do you replace it, i have a bad one, and it looks like it will need 2 people, and even then it does not look like it will be fun, maybe someone who has installed, can give me some advice. also, does anyone have the part number for this beast of a detector edge? who would design such a thing.

Just....why.... would someone install something like that? Evil. Have you looked into other options? I'd be willing to leave it mounted to the door and just put in something new, demo the old cables and call it a day.

Part # KM50016898
It's a two man job, a lot of the times the frame to which the beam is fasten too is bolted at the bottom of the sill. So in that case you'll have to run the car down in the pit to your helper to Unbolt . Then run to the top floor and unbolt the top part of the frame. Change your sensors , use the original bolts that go through the sensor , cut old zipties back to the door board, replace and repeat .
Good luck

The best part is that you have to get the &*^&%^&* things from Kone spares. It is proprietary. I am sure somebody will figure out what the controller needs to see and retrofit another brand to it.

Hi,
They should just be formula systems edges, very cheap if your in the states I don't know where you'll get them & you don't have to buy from K1, and you can actually fit any, if you know where to connect!

Good luck

Yep this arrangement is very standard on MRL lifts, particularly car doors that are pretty flimsy. We had a stock standard procedure that worked, ie worker in the pit, who unhooks the bottom bolts- then the worker on top of the car cuts the ties to the leads to the units, so they can be raised up onto the car and then subsequently replaced- then new units lowered and bolted down to the sill once again. Some come with a frame, that has to be switched, others don't. Most of the time you can swap with a commercial unit ie pana40 but remember to match the pnp/npn units or they will work in the reverse.

All you have to do is put the N/O contact on a third party door edge system between pins 46 (GND) & 44 (PC1 IN) on plug X15 on AMD1 Door board, it's easier to use one of the existing plugs from the old receive edge.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Dave!! They are formula systems. However, formula and their distributors would not sell to us the thin ones that are on the Kone units. We shall try the set up you are referring to next time.

Thanks!!

I have replaced a few of them. As everyone stated it is a 2 man job and it is a Formula Systems Edge. I think its the only product Kone Spares does not hammer you on the price.
