211 Life Expectancy

I have a hospital with otis 211s and they are wondering what is the life expectancy of them? So i am asking how many runs have you guys seen on the counters? I have one with 1 million runs, and is 5yrs old.

With the right maintenance you could easily get another 20 years out of it. Lifespan of most elevators is 25 years. Being that it is a hospital they will push it out to forever. Spending money on elevators isn't as sexy as new imagine machines. Ever seen a hospital billboard that says "We have modernized elevators!"?

What I tell my customers on good equipment like yours is at the 10 to 15 year mark when it starts getting harder and harder to get the boards you need to keep them running get your customer to buy a complete set of boards maybe two sets depends on the size of the job. Then when you have a problem the parts to fix them are already there. So down time is cut dramatically then you send the old boards out for repair and keep the cycle going. Our biggest customers do this even for new equipment just to save down time. Yes as the contractor you should replace the boards under a full maintenance contract but you cant stock every board for every job. And they only buy them once then you cover the cost of replacement. We keep a lot of good obsolete jobs running like this and of course stock up on any boards you can beg, borrow or steal from the mods in town from people who wouldn't listen or cant figure it out themselves.

The 211 (LVM) is one of the most well designed hydro's on the market. With the proper maintenance, you should get a lot of dependable use out of them.
