I got pricing on an EZ SCAN from VE about a year ago and I think it was around 3k. The only set back is it will only work for the unit they set it up for and from the sound of it it's not a quick plug n play. The customer doesn't want to pay for it because the local TK office told them the tool was very common and available for anyone to purchase, which is BS because the customer was referring to the Map tool that is only available to TK. I believe these Northerns are similar to the ascension 2000's in the fact that they automatically shutdown after a certain period and require tool to reset.

I had a generic MAP tool at one time, being the honest sort of fellow I am, I gave it back when I left......The Northerns do not have the "leveling counter" in the software as the Ascensions do, you are correct about the MAP tool. We have a few of the Northerns and would love to have the generic MAP tool.

Just be lucky the unit doesn't have the "elevision" option. that commands a mandatory map unit reset as well as a computer reset every 100,000 runs or so.

If possible get your customer to check his original specs on the job. If the job was spec'd by a consultant or sold as non-proprietary they should be required to supply the EZ scan. That being said, I don't use mine anymore. Usually when my northern's go down its a bigger headache than can be diagnosed with the ez-scan.

I don't think they shut down automatically unless programmed but they do have a habit of losing selector data (the cartop processor board). The eeprom on the cartop board has a lifespan and can become unstable after about 10 years. From my recent experience access electronics only offered a 50% success rate on repairing a board that is less than 10 years old.

Using the NP programmer plugged into the cartop and the appropriate floor data for your speed you can reprogram it and get it back running again.

The 1600 and the 3216u cannot be repaired for stock. They can only do a "Repair and Return" on them back to the same job site. The 3216u board has a job specific black module. The old version was a 1600 and now it is now replaced by 3216u. "The 1600 board has a battery backed ram, if it's dead the board is not repairable. Keep in mind that the batteries in the RAM only last for 10 years." Access will repair, but only 50/50 chance can be repaired.

Isn't this music to your ears? Mine happen to be in an extremely high profile building and no other building in my portfolio rattles me quite like this one does when i look at the phone and see the name on there!

i take care of around 20 - m3200's and 9 - 1600's and i find them very reliable but a pain in the ass to troubleshoot. i have never lost a floor profile but have had to replace almost every circuit board they manufacture. i have been in contact with northern tech support on many occasions. i personally like the unit.

Pdq1600 is correct. We had two here in town that shut down like clock work ever two months. Then tk stopped reprogramming the building owners map tool. They eventually had to buy two software upgrades for $5 grand each. The upgrade came with site specific map tool...
