Dover DMC with UPS backup

Dover DMC with UPS backup - 02/16/15 04:39 PM

Not being super familiar with the DMC, I have a question about the UPS backup unit, this is the one that is a small type UPS much like you would find hooked up to a desktop computer. Are these designed to automatically allow the elevator to rescue down during a power outage? Also what is the preferred way of testing? When mainline is on, the micros witch is N.O. So when I tested the unit I had one side of the microswitch pulled off, dropped power while running between floors and nothing happened. If anyone has the straight line drawing or any other write up please feel free to share, I have the normal prints but they don't show the UPS so I'm not to clear what all is happening. Just another route mechanic trying to keep things running.

I test mine in the following manner,
Down load from the CLC to the FAST tool (good practice, hope you have one). Get control of the car, jumper the auxillary disconnect contacts in the controller, send the car away from the floor and pull the switch. If all goes well, it'll level speed down to the lowest landing and open the doors, then close them. Pull the jumper and power the unit up again. If all of the controller equipment looks OEM (ie Dover blue hat channel bracket securing the battery, a metal stand off panel with an 115VAC terminal block and a few relays mounted to the back and front, etc. ) it just may be the battery in the UPS unit itself is bad. Are there any LEDs to clue you in as to the state of the stand by unit itself?

I do mine pretty close to elmcannic, you must must must down load the clc info or you will be very unhappy!! i just get control of the car and have the building maintenance guy kill the feed to the elevator disconnect, Now understand this elevator is in back of a building and almost never gets used, if it was a more used elevator i would find a different way to do this. The batteries are replaceable in the UPS and most of the time replacing them will take care of your problems. i have had to replace a whole UPS unit before if i remember right it would not charge the batteries.

Finally got back to the job today, figured out that the replacement UPS units that were ordered (customer wanted new ones) were suppose to be a direct replacement, the rating is the same but the units overload and completely shut down when testing. Took the battery out of a new unit, installed in the old unit and tested, then found out that the microswitch in the mainline is wired wrong I think, elmcannic said to jump the microswitch so I tried that and everything worked.

Careful there...I said to "jumper the auxilary disconnect contacts in the controller". Hopefully that's what you meant, and NOT the disconnect itself. Anyway, hope you got it figured out.
