Kone Marathon WG door operator cable issue

Kone Marathon WG door operator cable issue - 09/10/15 03:34 AM

Have a Kone hydro with this operator that seems to go through quite a bit of cable recently. I know its a eighth inch aircraft cable, but is there a special strand configuration due to the tight bends on the small drum? We have used some standard 7X19 cable and it seems it doesn't last long before it starts to fray. Sheaves and drum both look fine as far as any burs or damage to the grooves. Any insight would be appreciated.

It was always aircraft cable, it came from MAC Spares. I never inquired about the number of lays, but 7x19 doesn't seem quite right.

Just for the fun of it, those WG door operators remind me of the old Otis 7660 cable driven door operator. The main difference is that the 7660 has a direct drive and uses old school resistor and cam technology and the WG, due to its younger age using solid state technology and a gear motor.

On other end is spring to keep tension on cable, it needs to be reset or adjusted to keep tension.
