OK I have been contacted by others with the same problem we are having. I wanted to be doubly sure before I said anything as we had been told we were the only company with this problem. The 207 governors on about 14 elevators we have had so far! When the hammer drops to grab the rope it rebounds. Bam bam bam Sometimes it rebounds hard enough to reset itself back into the retainer clips! A lot of times it will still set the safeties but sometimes it doesn't.We have had this problem on repairs (with safeties by other OEMs) And on Mods also with other OEM. And on new construction with all Hollister Whitney equipment. And believe me we have spent weeks with crews trying to figure this out. HW sent their guys down with no luck also. We have adjusted everything there is to adjust on the governors and the safeties. We have filmed the governors and the tail sheaves and played everything back is slow motion. The only thing that HW could come up with is that it may have been our rope as we always use Bethlehem. We used rope supplied by HW and have had the same results. The only thing left was to replace the 207 governors with the 208s. On new construction this meant we had to recore the MR floor to go from a 12 inch sheave to a 16 inch sheave. If you have installed any 207 governors and thought you heard something funny you may want to recheck them. If you are ready to turn equipment over be extra vigilant. HW is a great company and we do a lot of business with them but there is a problem here people need to be aware of........350 fpm and 500fpm jobs

Thank you Danzeitz,
We always using 207 on 350 FPM jobs and 208 on 500 jobs. Had not have any issue yet. We always check out the pull through data from the old governor and recondition the old safety if it is mod. I will keep an extra eye on the HW governor.
Thanks,
Ken

Do you have rope grippers or emergency breaks?

Yes but these were disabled during the safety test.
