Thyssen IMS Help - 11/02/16 12:28 PM

Hey guys new here on the forum but I've been busy lurking around for a little while. Anyways last week my work Laptop for connecting up to our T4's broke down so I've been trying to use my personal Laptop that doesn't have a female serial port to connect our T4 to IMS. I got me a serial port to USB adapter to connect my laptop to the T4. When I open up IMS it says "Unable to open the serial port, com 1". No lightbulbs or anything show next to the cars on the control panel too. I've already installed the Driver that came with the serial to USB adapter. I've also tried changing the com ports in the IMS config menu to no avail. What settings in the IMS would I need to change to get it to connect? Any help is greatly appreciated!

What operating system you using and if you go into Device Manager (Location depending on OS) what serial ports does it show? Also make sure your IMS was not last used on A DMC or Door Fast as those are RS-485 and IMS will not see your Serial Ports.

Try to connect to the controller with Hyperterminal. You can download it off the internet for free if you don't already have it on that computer. This way you can confirm that your adapter is working correctly and that it is in fact COM 1. If your driver set itself as some other com port it should be available in the com port drop down, you may want to just try each one. The settings are 1200 bits per second, 8 data bits, parity: None, 1 stop bit and flow control is Hardware. It should come up and do a confidence test, sometimes you need to reset the CPU after you have the session open for it to connect. If that works, IMS should work set to that Com port and direct connect. If Hyperterminal won't connect you need to look at computer settings, your adapter or the driver.

Go to device manager and see what Com Port your USB to serial is. Change your IMS config to that com port. I've had very little luck using the Prolific chipset usb to serial drivers/adapters. I now only use FTDI chipset.
