OTIS GEN2 REGEN DRIVE - 03/28/17 03:06 PM

Hi Everybody

I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me on these points:

(i)The Regen Drive use the same power cable from the Distribution Board to import power during lift operation and export power during regeneration.

I can't understand how fast the regen drive synchronise with the utilities power? Does it synchronise?

(ii) If during lift moving downward and regeneration, there is a power cut, the power will go to the utility grid. Is this right or there is a safety.

(iii) If there is no load on the distribution board busbar during regeneration, will the power go to the grid? Is it appropriate? If the meter is not bidirectional, what will happaen?

(iv) Does someone could share a document on the principle of operation of the OTIS Regen Drive?

I'm new to this technology and confused. Any other helpful information would be most welcome.

Thanking everyone in advance.

1. Yes, same wires for drawing power and feeding back into the building.
The regen drive must be phased correctly to operate. This is accomplished at installation. This is probably what you mean by "synchronize"

2. If a heavily loaded elevator is moving down, or an empty or lightly loaded elevator is moving up the regen drive is producing power. However, if the power goes out when the elevator regen system is producing power, the elevator will quickly stop due to the loss of power and the brake setting. The motor will not be spinning anymore so no more regen.

3. In most regen situations, the electrical load will be distributed locally, and the power meter will just slow down. If the only load is the elevator operating in regen mode, power will go to the electrical utility grid. If the building meter does not have the capability to turn backward, power will still go to the grid, but the building will not reap any cost benefit. This scenario would be a very rare occurrence anyway.

4. Here is a good link to the info you want:

Thank you very much to share the knowledge.

Re: OTIS GEN2 REGEN DRIVE - 04/10/17 02:05 PM

With respect to phased properly as you mentioned, Does the Regen Drive prior to feed the building busbar, have to ensure during each regeneration that the voltage with respect to the Grid Voltage are
(i) same phase rotation
(ii) same voltage magnitude
(iii) same frequency
(iv) same phase angle

Thanks

Yes, the regen drive is designed to ensure that the voltage, frequency, and phase are all within a certain tolerance.
