TAC 20 Linear PA6 door operator - 09/23/17 12:14 AM

Anyone had any luck recently upgrading from a PA_ to a PA6 LDO? Last 3 I've tried I've had no luck with.

Most recently, gotta TAC 20-03 with a PA3 that got burned up by water getting into the box after a storm. Still could connect to it so I downloaded the config successfully. Put the new PA6 in with same jumper settings, left the motor plug out. Fired it up, and uploaded the old board config. Reset it, checked my profiles and parameters. It didn't seem to have changed anything from the defaults, so I went through and changed the relevant settings manually, and saved, reset. The door just jerks around though. Tried the generic config, same thing.

It's a LH linear, so I have LHO=1, LDO=1, ELI=1, DCM=1, plus others I don't remember now.

Last 3 I've tried to program have done basically the same thing. Not sure about the status of the other 2 since they're out of my area, but I'm stuck with this one.

Last PA6 I successfully installed was about 2 years ago, and I remember exactly what I did. It was easy as heck and I was out the door in 20 minutes. Match jumpers, download config from old board, install new one, upload old config, reset, and done.

Only thing I'm seeing is the software version numbers: 2.17 for the PA3, and 2.24 for the new PA6.

What am I missing? Did something change in the software that I don't know about? I'm using the same laptop I've used for the past ~2 years.

I've also tried putting the door profile into the door board directly using the 4-pin serial adaptor and hyperterminal - it connects fine, but then when I send the file, it gives me a status of "file rejected", and fails the transfer.

The R24 generic software has a preset profile menu so just choose LH Linear DC profile, save to flash and give it a shot. I don't know if it doesn't allow you to put in a profile manually anymore but I guess it's possible. If that still doesn't work, load the R23 generic and proceed as normal. The R24 is very new and I haven't tried to install a board with it yet, just found the new menu so looked at the software version and found there is now R24 software. I thought it seemed like a great idea, especially for other companies buying boards.

I think that's what I'm doing, but it doesn't seem to take. The transfer completes, but nothing changes.

Where can I get the new generic?

What are the doors doing that Causes concern? Can you run them open and close with mdo mdc? Are they running in correct direction? Does the board you are using have the uit on it? Also what jumpers are on and off? I would make certain jumpers are correct and if I remember right the replacement cards were preset to ac profile.

Old board had water damage all over the board and wouldn't move at all. New board jerks around and won't learn. Also does not seem to be taking the settings. It makes sense the new boards have an AC preset, from what it's doing, but I can't get it to take a new profile.

What position is jp5 jumper on? That changes communication type, 485 or can.

It definitely sounds like DCM is a 0. If you can't get DCM & LDO to save as a 1, it's not going to work, maybe a bad board? I would try to load the R23 generic then a profile through Hyperterminal. Or if you have access to a UIT, you could use the net Preset menu and save to flash. I'm not sure if you can access that menu through IMS or not, that R24 software is quite new.

I might actually have access to a UIT that I hadn't thought of. I'll try that next time. I found a spare PA3 that got them running yesterday, but I still need to figure this out.

I can't get the new board to accept any files through hyperterminal though. Just says file refused. Says the zmodem version is 1.06 too?

@jcjmowrey, I don't remember, but I matched it with the old board and the job.

You must move a jumper on the board for zmodem download. Not saying you are stupid, but I've been in the trade for 17 years, all with TKE, and typically forget to move my jumper the first time I try and download...

Lol I hear you and I've been there (almost 10 years myself), but I had the jumper right - I had communication. Zmodem ver. 1.06 would come up after plugging in and powering up the board.

The other thing you can do is download the profiles from Door fast with the laptop and make sure you have the correct hand operator. also make sure those jumpers are configured correctly.

use the uit. ver2.24 is the newest software. go into the config menu and select linear. autonull relearn and you should be good to go

Update on this. I just found out that the V2R24 generic software prevents certain critical parameters like LDO and DCM from being changed. The only way to change them is to load a profile through Hyperterminal, IMS transfer download, or with a UIT in the new Config menu.

Too fucking complicated for a damn door operator. All it does is open and close...... Sheeesh.

This makes sense of what we were seeing. Thanks.

I got the generic files from vertical express recently.
