Otis 211 - 02/04/18 03:09 AM

Does anyone have a list of faults for an Otis 211. I have to go to an out of town job on Monday and according to customer, display after reset shows MUSS I think this has to do with the starter or the motor up to speed contact on the motor starter. Any help would be appreciated.

MUSS = motor up to speed contact failed to open in solid state starter

Bring a logic board. Or if up to speed is stuck closed you can brake off the little surface mount cap that shorts around the SSR contact. It’s almost always the problem, so much so that they don’t put it on the new boards.

The MUSS fault is is a well documented symptom resulting from a failure in the soft starter. The Otis solution is to provide the signal through an added timer and the Run Input.

Yes I have seen the Otis bulletin on adding a timer to simulate up to speed. But for a Siemens starter it seems non-sensical.

Yup. You're right about that.

Put the timer on per otis direction. Well somewhat, anyway. Also replaced the logic card in the Siemens starter for good measure. All is well and elevator is happy once again. Close to 1,000,000 trips on the unit. Thanks to all, especially Rolly and Jon.
