Tac 32 Hydro Post Power failure Issues - 07/22/18 02:37 AM


Have a Tac 32 hydro on my route that won't run on automatic after a power outage. it will run on inspection. The car will take hall calls(2 Stop) but when I go to place a hall call and I break the door/safety edge beam when entering the car the controller faults out SP Bad LED and NP Bad LED. I can reset the( sometimes up to 5 times before the controller is happy) disconnect but the same thing happens again. I'm new to this route, but this is the second building power failure issue(I wasn't there for the first one) that has resulted in the replacement of the CWIL, S24-1 and S24-3 boards in a month. I have ordered the same 3 boards after this 2nd power failure. I've done SPC(jumper j2 to pins 1-2, SPC command, then jumper back to 2-3 and reset the disconnect), TECC, TFR and SFR commands. I got these faults when I first arrived:2716,2747,2715,1925,1529,3003. What am I missing? Thank You for any help you can provide.

So the car runs normally until the edge is blocked? That sounds very strange, that input goes into the door board and I don’t think it’s monitored by the SP or NP. Are these the same symptoms as the last time? I would pull the SE wire from the door board CON9 pin5 and see how the car acts. It kind of sounds like something on that SE input is pulling down the 24v power supply in the COP.

Thanks Indirtwetrust for responding. The 1st mechanic recorded this fault: sp1 Loop Fault and that he replaced the CWIL,S24-1 and S24-3 boards after the 1st power outage. This work was done 06/27/18. This same mechanic also left a note stating that "C.O.P. not responding so don't let the car doors shut behind you!! CHECK ALL FUSES!!". The building had another power outage 07/19/18 and that's why I'm here now. I'm the new service mechanic on this route and the other mechanic is on vacation. I have the 3 boards ordered and they will be here on 07/23/18. The car will take calls from the laptop, run on inspection and take hall calls, the doors open and close normally on each floor, but as soon as a try to enter the car the elevator faults out and the doors go limp , then the SP Bad and NP Bad LEDs light up. I then have to cycle the disconnect several times before the SP Good and NP Good LEDs will come back on and the car is happy. Thanks for the help!

If it still happens with the wire pulled, see if the SE wire reads to ground. Could be a short or bad edge detector board. If it doesn’t, I think I’d replace the door board. You could also hook up your meter to P24 in the car set to MIN and block the edge to see if the supply is actually dropping out.

Will Do. I should mention that I'm a new service mechanic(2 weeks), but I love the job. I wish I was a better troubleshooter, I'm not very good with a meter(yet) and my eyes/brain are sore from reading prints/manuals. I believe I understand what voltages I'm to look for on the SE wire to ground(24v) and P24(24v to 0v) dropping out. Am I correct? Thanks

My gut is telling me you have an issue with the light ray board. I’ve had them malfunction after lightning storms.
Hang in there with being new to that side of the trade as it’s a lot to take in. Just be safe doing so. I’ve been at it 22 years and still learning new things and seeing strange things happen along the way but it makes life interesting that’s for sure!

So when I said see if the SE wire reads to ground, I meant check the resistance to ground. If all is well I would expect to see a reading in the high K ohms to M ohms. Anything lower than a couple hundred ohms (all the way down to 0) could be the cause of your problem when the contact in the edge detector closes and puts P24 on that SE wire. If you do get a low resistance reading, you would then want to find out where the path to ground is coming from. To do that I would first pull the wire from the edge detector board and see if you still read the same resistance or it’s now open and coming from the detector board. If it’s still on the wire, the only other place that goes should be the terminal strip in the door operator. I have seen a similar issue from a metal shaving sitting across 2 shorting bars on that terminal strip.

Long day,( answering trouble calls: entrapments, Otis 211 low oil faults.... I didn't even get to my routine maintenance) 13 hours on the clock, so my post will be short. I discovered when I pull the rj45 connector either at the selector or the CWIL board the elevator resets and all is well. When I break the Safety edge the elevator faults out. Sorry Indirtwetrust I pulled the SE wire on connector 9, pin 5 ( the door just stayed open), but didn't measure to ground, I will do it first thing in the morning. I unbundled all the wires in the door operator board looking for cut/ damaged wires and possible EMI interference, the car ran perfectly for about 20 minutes( I was ready to turn the car over to the public), but then faulted out, funny thing is if I pull the Rj45 connector for the selector from either the selector(TSMC board} itself or on the CWIL board the elevator will reset itself and the elevator is happy again, but as soon as I break the safety edge it faults out.. I just discovered our company troubleshooter and our regional troubleshooter are familiar with this issue. I believe it is a CAN/software issue with Tac 32's. I'll keep you all updated.

If the door didn’t close with the wire pulled it’s normally closed, I was thinking they were normally open. So to get the detector out of the equation you would have to pull the wire and jump the terminal to P24, disconnect the detector power supply, and pull your jumper to simulate breaking the beam. But still might be worth a shot but since it’s normally closed it’s much less likely there’s a short on the switched side of the SE signal. Please let us know what the fix is, I have never heard of this issue though. Do you know what version of generic software you have?

I think the return signal is a power, if it is going to ground, the supply in car may be losing volts, so you could lose all sorts of Crap ( door open limit, door close limit, CAN going haywire) ctrl-alt-1 to open the picture of the door with limits and SE visible and see what happens when SE is blocked might help. If you are familiar with how to create log files, you may find an answer there too.
