Dsd 412 Westinghouse fearless vibration

Working on adjusting out a modded 12 stop. 500fpm 40hp gearless 2:1 roping Westinghouse dc machine Smartrise controller. Retained existing machine. Old controller was Westinghouse SMF3. New cables tensioned properly

2 problems.

1- Vibration in car in middle of hoistway - up or down direction. Starts around 4th floor vibration increases as you approach 6 then smooths out by 8th landing. Have spent hours on phone with Smartrise and magnetek.

2- with full load car overshoots a bit. Drive doesn’t seem like it can control the slowdown. If I lengthen my slowdowns then my customer doesn’t like the increased time for leveling with empty car.


Old system had its issues but vibration wasn’t one of them.

I have never adjusted a smartrise, but have had similar problems with other control and drive systems. Usually the problem was that the KI, and KP velocity loop was the vibration culprit. You may also want to look at the strength of the motor field coils for your slowdown issues. Also look at weather you going the speed the controller thinks you are going. Check with a good tach.

I agree with John Jay, this is going to be a gain setting, also there is sensitivity settings for the encoder that may also help and possible a notch filter. Is this a straight slot armature motor?

The older DSD412 didnt have much past parameter 40,41,42 response, inertia,stability. Of the three the inertia is the most critical to get right if the car is to be stable at all speeds and loads. It really has to be calculated. But if set right , you usually can get by with less 40 response.
There is a 107 parameter tach gain which may help on cases of rope reasonace induced vibration. One idea is to also use the gain reduction switch. This allows you to back off the stiffness of control in steady state high speed, but adds it back in on acceleration and deceleration. So it gives you control where you need it. The newer boards have a notch filter parameter 190,191.

As far as Full motor field current and weak motor field current, was that info available on old motor data tag. Or was that calculated from survey data before the mod. The DSD 412 has fairly precise instructions for setting these two settings. But make sure you are using a very current manual, there are many different versions floating around out there. One you are confident on motor field strength, inertia 41 is very tricky to get set precisely. The nice thing is magnetek is very helpful over the phone.
