Kone Mono Space with V3F25 Drive - 12/19/11 09:14 PM

confusedWe have drive faults 0131 breaking resistor damaged--0105 intermediate voltage low or drive faulty--0109 position loss-- black soot in drive. First time for drive problems for us any sugestions?

I'd yank the drive, check for shorted SCRs, miscelaneous burnt stuff and broken crap. Disconnect the motor from the drive, check all three legs to each other, and each to ground. Should be meg ohms, or high K ohms. We had a motor get water damaged, and all three legs read 1 ohm to each other, and 1 ohm to ground. Yet the drive acted like a safety valve, and allowed the motor to turn. The short was after some coils, I take it, so the drive was still able to generate some magnetic force in the windings, and the motor turned under power, even though it was shorted. Although the VF25 just kept shutting off and turning on, on current limit, so the motor had these violent pulses, as the torque would come and go. Car rode like a jackhammer, with rapid cyclic vertical oscillations. Funny how that drive can turn a shorted motor like that. But I digress. Anyway, check the motor out.

Did you ohm out the braking resistor?

BTW, (unrelated to your drive meltdown), if you got an earlier ADON board, you will get a lot of spontaneous bs faults. Gotta stick in the ADON II, it takes care of a lot of problems. ($800 core return on the ADON 1, so don't trash it)

Do you have slide guides? Keep 'em well oiled....The way I hear it, the PMSM motor is marginally sized on some jobs, and a new motor (MX20) is $40,000 from Kone Spares.

I have changed so many drives in the past six months they are on backorder...
Brakes,Adon boards and now drives, Whats next?

It's the biggest pile of crap since the Otis MRVF.

A candidate for the Hall of Shame. A black eye on our industry.

An engineer from MCE told me a local Kone branch wanted MCE to make a mod controller, to replace Kones' own KCM831 and V3F25. MCE was gonna do it, but Kones' Finland headquarters put the squash on it. According to MCE, I was the first elevator company to completely fill out the engineering data form they wanted, to begin engineering a mod controller for the Kone Krap. But it's been a year, and so far nothing from them yet.

Some of the stuff kone have developed is shocking i have never been a big fan of the kone v3f25 drives i have lost count of how many have gone down i would recomend a controller and vvf upgrade

Wow thanks for the info!!! we only have about 4 on maintenance and this hotel would double our number. Thankfully they are an OG account.

don't forget the Otis NextStep in the crap category.

I left Otis in 1992, never heard of NextStep. Is that a controller?

escalator

Re: Kone Mono Space with V3F25 Drive - 12/22/11 01:42 AM

Oh, escalator, ok.

Maybe they should have named it Mis-Step?

Kone's chinese escalators have step chains that are the thinest I've ever seen. They really took the heft of the materials out of the design, pared it down to the bare minimum. Feels like a toy.

Also, the control spits out faults left and right.

After only 4 years, the newel ball bearing rollers are already seizing up, (RS type, double sealed) squeaking, and needing to be replaced. The bearings grenade, dropping shards of broken seal rings, and sharp ass ball carriers down into the sheath of the handrail. Oh, great! Love those cheap ass chinese bearings. They're like little bobby traps, ready to spill their destruction onto the world at large.

The mortise cylinders used for key starting have no mechanical stop, so the force is taken up by the tiny little Microswitches, which invariably crack.

They tried to get fancy with their wiring, and on the spring-clip type controller terminals, they put a ferrule on the end of the wires. I guess they didn't want the wires to fray. But it was so ill-conceived, it doesn't even work, because the ferrule is too big to fit under the spring clip, so the wires are barely attached. The spring clip just sorta leans on the ferrule at an angle, but the clips' teeth are no where near the ferrule, (being spread so wide by the oversized ferrule), so there is no positive "bite" by the clip into the ferrule. Vibration causes them to back out. Got more than one wire landed on a terminal? HAH HA, fuhgeddabowdit! Incredibly childish engineering. Possibly designed by Ray Charles, or Stevie Wonder.

On the plus side, their combplate impact switches, (vertical and horizontal) are easy to maintain and adjust. I guess they haven't gotten around to re-designing that part yet.

To be fair, there are other parts that aren't completely awful.

Unfortunately, most of them are making them over in China.I've had Demarcation Lamps on the ECO 3000's .(The bulbs are only 9 watts!)melt the sockets so bad that the whole bulkhead fixture needs to be replaced. There was no issue like that with my ECO 3000's from Stadhagen,Germany.

V3f25 drives are great its the v3f16l that is not. I'm sure you fixed it by now but 103 resistor fault some times on the resistor stack i have seen those studs break off or wire loose if breaking resistor car will usually run and then when it slows down it will throw a 103

Yes replaced the drive and all has been well.
