1929 Otis Brake - SPLASHES OIL - 01/24/12 06:26 PM

I am not certain - why it is spashing the oil so heavily out of the brake box ??

We have pulled the brake and there are no cracks or lose nuts and bolts - the brackets are solid - but for some reason it is hitting hard enough for the fluid to "splash" out - which in turn gets the brakes wet and causes it to not stop appropriately - I wonder if the big spring at the bottom should be loosened ?
Does anyone have a thought or idea about this?

I'd drain the oil, and take a look down in there, see what makes it tick, but it sounds like you might have done that. Maybe the oil level is either too high, or maybe even too low? Is there any spring that softens the pick of the armature?

that is an a/c brake coil. the old oil is a carcinogen so be careful. the oil level is prob too high. but if it gets too low the coil overheats.
