OTIS GOOLEAN LOGIC PROBLEM

OTIS GOOLEAN LOGIC PROBLEM - 11/20/09 01:22 AM

My customer reports that about three times a week at 6:00 am when the guard arrives to open the building the elevators don't respond to the lobby hall call. They said sometimes they wait for up to 10 minutes before the elevators start answering calls. The position indicator shows at least one car in the lobby every time it fails, but it's not always the same car. They were using the fire service key to wake everything up, but then they figured out by sliding a piece of paper between the hall doors, activating the reopen device would open the doors on the lobby car and probably start the generator. Then everything would start working normal until the next morning.
This is a 4 car group. I still haven't been able to see it fail but I'm assuming that when all the generators shut down overnight something is preventing the signal to start the generator on the lobby car. What's the best way to approach this intermittent problem if it continues to elude us?

My BUNS have been there a couple of times early but never saw anything. Although, this morning I did notice that two of the cars would run from the first floor to the second floor about 5 times consecutively without opening the doors and with no demand. By the time I got the prints open and start taking measurement it went away. There is quite a bit of carbon dust on the boards, has anyone ever had a problem with signal issues due to carbon dust?

I would check the power supply for the group boards, make sure 35 and 5 volt supplies are at appropriate levels with minimal ac ripple. I have seen group problems with power supplies in the 30 volt level for 35 and 4.5 for the 5 volt supply. Low voltage and high ac ripple on goolean logic power supplies cause many intermittent unexplained and unanswered problems. ps also check individual car power supplies as well, If I were rich i would bet you a 100 dollars this is a power supply problem. If your not sure of the ac ripple factor compare values between power supplies of other cars. I would like to believe it would be below 100 mv ac.

Had a 4 car bank with a swing car doing that crazy shit one time... westinghouse mark iv... they would shut down, gensets would stop, then all of a sudden start running on their own... seems they were emergency dispatching...

turned out to be the phenolic ladders on the FH relays on each controller...

happened on thanksgiving day at a 14 story highrise that was serving 2000 dinners that day on the 14th floor... GM signed papers for the MOD that afternoon... true story...

hey, the goolean logic equipment isn't all that bad, It is what will separate the men from the boys, just as a mistress will, ha ha thats a good one.

Re: OTIS GOOLEAN LOGIC PROBLEM - 11/26/09 05:46 AM

Well, it's a good thing they got the man working on it! A little Goolean update for you. So it seems that the CV3 boards on cars #2 and #3 were removed by the previous company. The CV3 board controls the starting of the generator and other timing functions used by the group. With the boards removed the generators on cars #2 and #3 never shut off they just keep running. Also, the group has no signal from those cars that their generators are running. This may be causing my intermittent dispatching issue when one of those cars are in the lobby. I should be putting the new boards in soon so I'll give you a further update. Scott, only one of the power supplies was off and it was the 35 volt for car #4. It was set for about 38 volts. I adjusted it back to 35 volts but it didn't seem to do anything.

Re: OTIS GOOLEAN LOGIC PROBLEM - 12/08/09 01:14 AM

Goolean Update. Yes, I'm still working on this one. Replaced the CV3 boards in cars #2 and #3. With the new boards in, I was able to make the generators shut down properly when there is no demand in the building. Now the elevators will not respond to a Lobby Hall Call. If any of the 4 elevators are sitting at the lobby by themselves they will not open their door when the lobby hall button is pushed. Someone figured out by pulling the CV3 boards on cars 2 and 3 they could mask this problem. At least we're getting closer to the fix. I'll keep you updated.

Any update on this problem?

Re: OTIS GOOLEAN LOGIC PROBLEM - 01/29/17 10:37 PM

Either SC (Selected Car at Lobby) or Lobby Zone is not working. Is it A base or B base? A base goes slots A-Z while B base slots have 2 letters like YM. A & B use different test boards.
