Smartrise Run issue - 08/16/21 06:16 PM

We recently took over a car that has a smartrise controller (don't have many on account currently so we aren't too familiar with it)... had an issue last week that resulted in us having to leave it shutdown, we killed power to it when leaving the site. Returning to the site and putting the power back on we found that we had several issues with it - spoke with tech support and we had to go back to default settings on the program and then reteach, reporgram, etc all of it... we now have it running but it's not running properly, we keep getting a fault related to the brake switch. Weird thing is that further troubleshooting found a relay for that brake switch that was missing one of the coil wires completely.

So had 2 questions for anyone familiar with SmartRise...

1. is it normal to lose the program or have to go back and reset it then reprogram it completely just by killing power like that? or is there something we are missing here?

2. this brake pick switch relay missing a coil wire - any reason someone would remove that? like I said we only took it over a month ago so I'm just wondering if the previous company had a recurring issue or something and they removed this completely by taking away power to that relay. Although I find that hard to believe as its related to the brake i just can't seem to understand how it ran previously with no issue like this.

Appreciate any help.

Why don't you just contact SmartRise directly...(469) 678-8000

We did call them directly, all of this was after working with them for a few hours on it..... it was SmartRise who suggested we reset it to default settings then reprogram it all over. We also worked with them on resetting it and reprogramming it and then troubleshooting after that. But even the tech we were working with said that the controller should not lose its memory like this when powered off but said he didn't know why it would do that.

The Tech support from Smartrise are great if you are able to help them understands the exact problem you are having. When resetting a board, there are many hidden parameters that needs to be set and try to solve only one problem at a time.

Not sure about the programing issues your having trouble with, but the brake? Typically some tech disconnects the brake switch due to a mal adjusted brake, or drive settings they cannot figure out. Faults, call backs and shutdowns related to the brake need to be dealt with properly, and not by disconnecting or altering program settings looking for a brake input signal. Re establish the brake contact and you’ll no doubt be subject to a rash of brake related calls, then it’ll be your turn to figure it out. Be sure to let your supervisor know about this if you haven’t already. And if there is any documentation from the previous service contractor, review that as well. The building manager might be well aware of a problem they thought was fixed months earlier.

Smartrise used to have a great tech-support, but its not good anymore. Ive heard many of their key tech support people have left the company and that's why it sucks now. I am glad people in this forum can still help.
Be careful about their brake control system specially their brake boards, they are not safe at all. My mechanic was on top of the car on construction mode and the brake board failed in an unsafe state and kept the brake open all the time, even the brake contactor didn't drop! He was lucky and could jump off the car.
All their tech support did was to send a new brake board but I don't feel safe to use it again. I don't know how they get safety certifications!
