KONE KSS Car Call Button Issue

I have a KONE KCM831 with the KSS Car call button system, we got this job recently and Phase 2 didnt work, it looks like the previous company had issues with this COP and replaced buttons and the ribbon cable for the string.

i bought all new buttons and a reconfigure switch to program the entire COP again, i have the paper work to do this but im failing to complete this process. i now lost my IND service now along with the PHASE 2.

question is should i do the LON download before i start the reconfigure or should i do this after i am done. ive followed the instructions to the 'T" but its not taking at the end.

after i go through and configure the buttons, the instructions has me then going through all the buttons/switches and pressing them for 2 seconds to activate them and once you go through them, it has me recycling the power. i must be missing a step at the end any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you changed KSS F2KMUL board?
If not, a lon download will not be necessary.
Maybe you need to have a PC on`

what do you mean by Phase 2?

This was an exisiting F2KMUL board, phase 2 fireservice keyswitch.

And yea i dont have the software for the KCM831s

Did you reconfigured the Phase 2 key switch too?

If you are doing them all at once, I recommend doing the reconfiguration one at a time just in case

Per the KONE instructions i cannot just reconfigure one device. once i start the reconfiguration i have to go through and do all the devices in the string starting from the very first device on the list. I.E. the 1C car call button and so forth. basically doing the whole COP from scratch once i start the process.

You can configure just 1 device. You replace it then push the button and it’s programmed. You can keep doing that until everything is replaced

Can you please step by step tell me the process for a single button?

I'm still having issues with my KSS buttons.

Turn off power, replace button, turn power back on and push button. Voila, it works! Just did one yesterday

But that only works if you have a fully working COP, then replace 1 device. If you replace 2 or if you start the reconfigure process with the key switch you’ll have to go through the programming process. It’s also a really good reason to keep everything in the COP working correctly because if you ignore something like a bad independent switch module or bad phase 2 close or open button and then loose a regular button you could have to start over. That depends of course on why the device is bad, if it’s just the micro switch on the board it wouldn’t be a problem but if the whole board is dead it would. I’ve also seen someone come in and replace every button with power off. The calls were all scrambled but they did work. I decided it would be faster to just see where each button took me then arrange them accordingly, rather then to go through the key switch BS.

If you use the PC, you have the overview and can program the buttons as you want.

Everyone is right, but the problem is that he already turned the recon.switch to reset so that kind of gets him in a bad situation. So if your IND and Phase 2 is not working first try switching (with power on) the phase 2 into hold for 2 seconds. Then put the unit back in service not by recycling power but by putting unit from MR inspection back to normal. Do that instead of turning off and on. My set of instructions doesn't include turning off and on, I might have the wrong paperwork but it’s worth a try. Yesterday I replaced one and did it exactly the same as dirt and it worked perfectly.

You know where I can get the LON interface for the KSS program?

Is it possible to reuse old buttons? I replaced a cop and have a bunch of extra buttons now.

I wouldn't unless you reprogram from the start

You can but remember that each button have a programmed ID. And that wont change unless you reprogram. The only way is to use a already configured ID into that COP. So 3rd floor NEEDS to be with 3rd floor. Except DOB

yea my situation is very messed up one from the start, as we got the job the phase 2 didnt work, so we did do the replace the keyswitch board first and do the 2 second activation and still it didnt do anything, and as the previous company had replace a bunch of buttons, the whole ribbon cable string and still have had issues as i found doing the annual the first time. so this is why i went this route with the keyswitch.

I will try not turning off the power after doing my reconfigure, hopefully that might work, if not im going to have to find the software for the LON network.
