Bi-parting freight door lube

Bi-parting freight door lube - 03/09/22 08:45 PM

I now feel like the doughboy. Just left the flour mill. New job on my route. Looking for advice on what to use for lubing the door tracks that won't end up turning into dough.

I have had very good success using wd-40s "specialist" silicone lubricant. Id highly recommend it.

It's my go to for most light duty lubricating needs and door tracks in places like that. It sprays on but dries to a film that doesn't attract dirt and make a mess, and is effective. I use it for rollers on switches, restrictors, wire ropes on roped hydros (no traction concerns), lots of moving parts. It lasts a long time and doesn't get sticky as it gets old.

Check out all of wd-40s specialist line. They make a dry lubricant that sprays on, chain lube, contact cleaner, and others. And once you use that flip up straw you won't want to go back. The only thing they don't make with that straw I wish they did is brake cleaner.

I feel you though, we used to take care of a few cars in a flour place like that. Be careful on the cartop, that stuffs real slippery. Used to have to blow ourselves and tools off with an air compressor hose before leaving. I wouldn't take a call there in the morning, would only go as my last job for the day.

Depending on what was used before it may be worthwhile to clean the tracks with brake cleaner before using the new lube. Red brake cleaner (chlorinated) works better and is safer (non flammable) than the green stuff.

On another note, not at all what I'd use in that flour mill, but if you have never used Slip-It I'd recommend trying some. It's the best rail lubricant for slide guides I've ever used. Its nothing short of amazing. I can thank Schindler for turning me onto that, it's what they use on their square rails.

Thank you very much double E! I went there first thing this morning and felt like a pizza cook for the rest of the day. Lol
