Old indpendent elevator companies - 05/19/22 08:23 PM

Back in the 1920, 30s, 40s there were allot of independent elevator companies in the Midwest. Kiekhaefer & Heller were the two big ones. They usually bough CJ Anderson controller, sometime Cutler Hammer. They used GAL interlocks and St Louis Door Company tracks. I'm however stumped on a job I was just at. It has a pickup roller very similar to GAL but is using a convex door track roller similar to Armour's in a "J" style track. Anyone have a clue who this door equipment might be from? Sorry the pick of the roller and track didn't turn out.

Well to answer my own post, apparently CJ Anderson made a type 18/20 door operator with a 404-a interlock

Gotta love them old independent elevators. Around here we have a ton of Salem and Monarch elevators. They're almost all geared overhead tractions with an accordion manual car gate and swing doors a constant pressure up/down button. A couple are basement winding drums. Have one in a co-op with oak rails. The thing is they were built so simply and robustly with maintenance every so often they'll last until the building falls over. No one enforces the 17.3 code around here either. If you can keep em running they can run like the day they were installed with no safety upgrades forever Essentially. Love working on them.

Huh I didnt even know CJ Anderson ever made an operator. On the old Kiekhaefer, Rosenberg, and Heller stuff they typically did use GAL although I have seen a hand full of jobs where they used "elevator supplies Company" door equipment and controllers.

All original, unfortunately CJ Anderson doesn't carry parts for the hangers so going o have to retrofit some GAL hangers in the hall.
