Hey there fellas, I recently found out that Local 18 rank # 310 was hired about six weeks ago. I myself am not too far from this ranking. If there is anyone in need of insight or capable of providing it for Local 18 Los Angeles, post here.

Anyone have an update on which number the list is on?

Talk to the local and they are passed number 343 and before number 357

I was number 355. I got called today. They said they’re hiring 2 guys. I turned it down so good luck to everyone else coming up on the list!

I’ve heard that you can call and get the current number from the locals. Would I call the local or the region supervisor?

I’m placed in a smaller local but would like to just call someone and get an idea of where they are in their hiring.

False..I thought that to. with me passing that test I was able to interview in Portland in June this year and rank #81 and interview in Dallas in July this year and rank #51. Best of luck to all you!

Interesting, that's not what they told us in Seattle, if we dont get hired in this 2 year span, we had to take test and interview all over again.

Not sure yet, I am to report to the local office in Glendora on Tuesday. I am guessing they will let me know then.

Congrats, let me know where you get hired. There’s a lot of posts on here already that will tell you what to expect and what you need. Basically don’t be late (30-15min early), pay attention, stay busy, work hard, be safe and don’t be a [censored]. Carry a notepad and pen on you all the time and take notes if you have a hard time remembering Crap. Tape measure, channel locks, knife, flip flop screwdriver.

Has anyone got their results from the latest aptitude test or an interview date?
I'm fairly confident that I passed but it would be nice to put my mind at ease.

I was number 463... I got called the 22nd of October...been working for 2 weeks now.. so yes that list is stick active till they start another list.

Congrats! Gives quite a bit of hope for the rest of us that they'll probably reach around 500 when the next list is in place.

Good morning fellas, I recently just received my interview date at the end of January . Do you guys have any pointers or questions that they will ask?

Good luck, glad someone updated us on the new list. I took my interview a few years ago so I don’t remember all the questions I think there somewhere on these forums (examples.) I brought in all my certifications, photos of work I’ve done, letters of recommendation from previous employers.. Basically bring in EVERYTHING you got. Put it in a folder and make sure they’re copies so you can leave it with them if they want you to. Bring in 3 copies of your resume. One for each interviewer and one for you if you need it. Be confident and honest, we don’t like liars in this trade. Once again good luck and keep us updated.

In Vegas it took 2 full months I believe for them to call any one, I’m on that list as well. I looked back at the forum for Vegas but that’s just my best guess, all my elevator buddies say the list will move fast so we will see?

I read theres a ton of work in LA coming up for 2020 and 2021. Plus alot of retirements. Hoping this list moves quick. I'm excited to start this new journey and put in some work

Hello Guys hope doing great!!! Yesterday i got the the email with ranking nr#643 so obviously it really suck!! My name it will stay on the pool for 2 years so i know i'm not getting no chances to get hired and my question is that: on the next apprenticeship recruitment if i apply do i have any favoritism or is a simple start over???

My father Inlaw who just retired in San Diego said the exact same thing,

I would say learn from this recruitment and come back better prepared
I improved from my placing in Vegas that was 173 now in la I got 57
#1 I was more comfortable and allot more confident and I did not give way more info than needed I also didn’t shoot myself in the foot lol

Try taking some certification courses at trade schools. What I got from my interview is that they really liked that I was certified in fields related to the trade. Also, showing that you understand what the job entails and relating your answers to show that you would be a good fit helps a lot to. Hope that helps.

Hey there, I’m new to this entire thing. I’m number 609. And I know it’s going to take awhile before I’m in. I’m just curious as to when anyone might know they’ll start calling out again.

No real way of knowing. The talk on the forums is that companies are going to finish off all current projects and wait to see how the economy reacts to all this COVID-19 crap. If things take a turn for the worse, layoffs are very likely. Doubtful they'll be calling any more probies off the list for at least 4-6 months. IF things improve. Nothing concrete, mind you. Just people's opinions.

I've been hearing all probies have been laid off for a couple of the big companies already. So when this Chinese virus settles down all those guys are gonna have to get called in first. Then the guys from this current class. It's a fucked up mess. I ranked in the 70's and I'm hoping I get my number called within this 2 year window we have.

Could it be possible since this is such a unique event that they might extend that 2 year window?
Hopefully they do and that gives all of us enough time to get a call.
I honestly feel like they would considering that the processs is very lengthy and probably want to get things back to normal as quick as possible.

Doubt they would extend. With that said, some of the financial analysts are saying that once it looks like they got COVID-19 under control, the economy is expected to rev back up quickly. Like, REAL quick.

If that happens right as the 2 year period is about to end, the union might find that it is in the best interest of all -the union, the contractors and most importantly, our country's economy- to provide helpers to its signatory contractors ASAP and extend the list's call-time period. No way of knowing for sure what'll happen, though.

The reason it is a two year window is for issues during the hiring sequence. Sincerely doubt they will extend the current window, when the only draw back is going to be a re test...find a financial or time related reason, and you are on to something, simply putting out people who technically are not in our union yet, won't be a reason.

Can someone tell me about the situation in LA how they are going with the list since NY situation is way worse then Cali

They pulled in a couple guys maybe less than 15 then haven’t heard about anyone else getting called

So I heard through the grapevine they should start to pick up work for the apprentices as well as foreman around mid June. Not 100% certain though.

How reliable is your source? Cant wait to get that call. Keeping my hopes up 🤞

So they picked up work this last Tuesday and hopefully should start calling newbies out soon. Everyone just be in constant reminder to post what number you are and when they call you.

Otis just laid off a bunch of 50%-55%ers due to lack of work. I was one of them. The out of work list is gonna slow down waiting list you guys are on. Hopefully Crap picks up soon.

I got some info that’s completely ambiguous but no ones posting so here it is. My buddy is a mechanic for Otis, apparently they are busier than Crap and just called 6 guys to work, he didn’t know if they were off the bench or new hires.

Dude that's some good news. Coming up on a year now. I also heard from someone in the union that they might be extending this list another year.

I know I read somewhere that a lot of projects that were already paid for got put on hold because of 'rona. If they've cleared the benches AND hired 21 off the newbie list, they're going full bore to catch up. There's probably going to be lots of OT, as well.

They are starting to call back the probationary apprentices that were laid off back in July. The word is work is picking up FAST. Otis took a bunch of guys off the list and are starting Monday.

You just have to be patient. I waited nearly three years to get called. Worth the wait though.

I’ve been waiting for Local 1 in NYC to continue the recruitment process, passed my test last year just been waiting for them to open up so I can interview. Hey Eman310. I appreciate your post about how long you had to wait for a call. I was hoping I could ask you what that process was like. Did you have to reinterview after 2 years? I was under the impression that after 2 years you fall off the list and have to reapply. But not sure really what happens after the 2 years

I have been on the list for Vegas since 2018 as long as they don’t have another open testing date from what I’m told I’m still on the current hiring list

Well I got the call (#57) but I had to turn it down, it was for LA I will have to hold out for San Diego. The guy on the phone said they had 2 openings for la so I would assume they are on 59 now

If I didn’t live 4 hrs away, have a house, a 1 year old and a baby on the way sure would of made sense. I’m first on the San Diego list so I’m confident I made the right decision. Plus I’m taking a paycut to get in so the time to drive and the price of fuel just doesn’t make sense.

Hey guys, #301 here. Per Reddit, it looks like they’re on at least #139. 30 guys were called but not sure where #139 is within the 30. Congrats to all who made the list and who’ve been called. I hope and pray we all get called.

Alright guys, I spoke to a lady in the office in Glendora,. They’re holding the list until December for no reason. This tests a lot of our patience and it’s utter bs but we live on, barely.

Im going to assume that means the list will be actively hired off of until at least then

I’m not exactly sure if that means they’ve paused the hiring until December or if the list is active til December. My guess is “paused” if newbie called and asked what number they’re on and the lady’s answer was “We’re holding the list...”. We’ll know for sure what the answer is if/when the next update is posted in the coming weeks.

I have a theory (maybe wishful thinking) that it was an April Fool’s joke played by the receptionist being that we were, in fact, instructed to not call the hall (hence why we’re checking this forum in lieu of) along with it being an inquiry call and not official business. She doesn’t have to give any information if she felt, right?

It doesn't make sense to hold from hiring off the list because they wouldn't obstruct demand when there is work. If there was a slowing in the work part I can see that being the case.

Next I wouldn't look too hard into it she could be frustrated with calls. I called and received similar attitude even though I was asking about something else but she may have misunderstood what I was really asking and assumed it was list related.

Also I noticed if you call early day you get a dispatcher which could be who the commenter spoke with. I've called later in the day in the past and got someone different who seemed less restrictive on information if you were polite enough.

My advice will be not calling unless you have a legitimate question and with your best polite voice see if they will supply information. We must rely on each other and post when our numbers get called.

This year is an extension year so don't be surprised they start sending out emails to reapply for interviews and begin the process of creating a new list. So reapply if you haven't been called yet just in case.

No problem. This list will go into 2023. The process to creat the new list will start later this year (test and interview stuff).
