Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 04/24/18 12:26 PM

I inquired last week, so far 3 people have been called in Charlotte, so we all moved up 3 spots. I was told there's going to be a lot of movement in the upcoming weeks, so thats good news. You should be hearing from someone soon.

Anyone know what number they are up to in the list?

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 05/20/18 11:48 AM

@ GoGo why don't you just call the hall? 704-455-5313

@ Lee Most guys who get called don't come back here to the forum as they no longer need it.

And stop obsessing over where the list is. That list can move and stop on a whim. I was next on a list for three weeks. I got the call waiting in line for a hot ham and cheese sandwich, I had to quit my job that day and drive six hours for the urinalysis. Then I had to wait until it came back before I could start. So, from the "Call" to my start date was 11 days. When the call happens you have to take it, or they will move on to the next guy, If they leave you a message, call back that day or BR will move on after a few hours,

@hog45 Can you give us a run down on what the benefits look like as far as medical and retirement? Any insight on working for the local would be appreciated.

@GoGoMets One month ago I was ranked at 17 for Charlotte.

Hey guys. Just an FYI... I got a call Monday and I start tomorrow with Schindler. I was #4 in Charlotte. I missed his call but called back within minutes. When they call they will need you to start fairly quickly. Good luck everyone. Hope to see some of you guys out there soon!

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 05/21/18 12:57 AM

@Lee
The benefits are great, I doubt you will find any better. They'll be better explained to you in a probationary meeting after you get hired. But a quick run down, Health $300 deductible for you and an additional $300 for your family, in network almost everything is covered. There is a pension, for every 1750 hours worked you get X amount of dollars per month after age 58 if you retire. You can retire @ 55 but with a penalty. There is also an IRA.

Be advised you have to work for 6 months before benefits kick in. A month is defined as 100 hours worked in the calendar month ie: Feb 1-28. If you do not make 100 hours the month does not count. this definition also applies to the year long probationary period.

@hog451
I got a missed call last week from the union. I called back right away. But lady said, she already filled the position. They needed somebody right away. She wouldn't give me anymore information. Does that mean I'm next on the list?

Oh man, I don't know. I'd call and ask them. Best case? Yes you're next. Worst? Sorry.

Anyone still following? Found out I am number 3 on the list and want to be prepared with a compliant safety boot. If anyone knows this info please share. Thanks

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/02/18 07:51 PM

Otis requires steel toe, electrical hazard and puncture resistant. I wear Keens. They are super comfortable, but wear out quickly. I can get a year out of them, but I work new installation and we shred boots.

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/02/18 10:19 PM

Thanks for the heads up hog451. I will look into Keens

Got another question for anyone who can answer. Heard a few things. All hear say on benefiting from travel expenses? Having a choice on hotel or on your own as far as perdiem goes. Wondering if having a camper trailer would be a good investment for out of town work. Thanks in advance.

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/10/18 11:50 PM

@ Lee with as much work as i have heard that Charlotte has tons of local work, that's where you will be working primarily. Any out of town work will be random, and definitely not worth buying a camper trailer,

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/11/18 12:03 AM

Appreciate it hog451. Good to know we have a ton of local work. Does the union compensate differently when choosing not to stay in a hotel or is that hear say?

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/11/18 12:45 AM

Did anyone recently get picked up by Otis? Just wondering we had 3 new hires in for orientation the other day.

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/11/18 02:36 PM

If you get called do you have time to put in a 2 weeks notice? The reason I ask is because one guy said they called and he started the next day.
Posted By: Eros

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/11/18 05:28 PM

You got to report to the union the next day for orientation

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/11/18 07:29 PM

So they don't give you time to notify your current job that you will be quitting?
Posted By: hog451

Re: Local 135 Charlotte recruitment - 07/12/18 12:45 AM

@buckeye: there is no time for a notice. It's "We have a job take it or we move on."

@Lee the Union does not compensate you, your company does. The union negotiated the terms of employment including per diem and travel reimbursement. You get perdiem whenever you're in a zone that has perdiem, Zones will be explained to you when you get hired. if you'rein a zone that qualifies for a hotel reimbursement; you get the room (keep it reasonable) they pay you back.

When I was hired I reported to the company, not the union. I didn't meet with a union guy until a month or so after I was hired. Each local is different.

Dude you should be on top o your Crap and call every week until you are like 5 away from being called that's when yo put in your two weeks, even then they might call you in quicker.
