Recently it seems every other question is from someone who isn't qualified to be performing work on elevators.
Besides the few who post daily its hard to tell who is and isn't.

Maybe we can add a forum for these type of questions. Most answers to these questions should be contact who ever holds your maintenance contract but maybe this forum could help point these people in the right direction, may get them the knowledge to know the right question to ask, and also inform them how vital it is having a qualified mechanic taking care of their equipment.

There should be rules to this forum and if those rules are broken maybe somehow we could flag the question and have it removed. As for example someone asking how to perform work they are not qualified to do.

Since I have been a contributor site I've received a lot of great info that has helped me out in the field. And that what scares me about some of the questions asked. We give great info to someone who gains confidence and tries to perform this work on their own. Then someone gets injured or killed. As a Mechanic the safety of the public, equipment, and to our selves is always our number one priority.

I'd like to hear some other suggestions on how you guys feel about this subject.

Agree. This isn't an owner diy project forum. As you might tell their is no home depot book for what we do.

I agree! Some of the questions lately do not sound like people who have went to school, or have a mech license .

I appreciate your guys suggestions and concerns. I'm not sure if creating a separate forum will solve this issue. I think the members of this forum can easily distinguish between a real elevator mechanic and someone posing as one. This is a niche industry and we have our own language that is unique to the elevator industry. The members of this forum have always suggested for "Do it Yourselfers" to call a qualified elevator company if their questions appear suspicious. We would certainly remove any posts that would cause someone to be put in harms way.
Unfortunately, as long as this is an open public forum there will always be the spammers and "Do it Yourselfers" that try to get through. It's our responsibility as qualified mechanics to field those posts and provide safe and responsible answers.
Thanks again for all the participation. I believe some of the best elevator people in the world are on this forum and I appreciate your responsible contributions.

I sometimes think the DIYers are also major company hacks posing innocuous questions to "catch people out", and try to find out who they are for giving away company "secrets" and if you dont think they are out there then you are deluding yourself!!!.

I used to be indecisive....now i"m not so sure
