Got a new hydro install with galaxy controller. Unit keeps going out of service, past 3 days. "Velocity errors", "Pulse count error". Moved pulse count sensor on the selector as close as possible to the tape. Changed velocity parameters, made UTS and DTS larger from 100-140. Car speed is 100 fpm. Customer is becoming very irritated. GAL. Tech support is nearly impossible to talk to. Waited on hold for 2 hrs., left messages, no call. Backs...anybody have any experience with these controllers? We heard they were good, this is our first experience with the Galaxy.

Forgot to mention, that I've had to reset "hot oil, and low oil" faults several times after it put unit out of service. GAL says it's just a glitch, and I have to deal with it....sounds fishy to me....any thoughts.

Very tired tonight, sorry for the brain farts, oil temp sensor and low oil sensor are not even wired into the controller.

are you seeing the pulse light flicker on the safety processor board in the controller? if it just stays on solid, swap your pp and pps wires going into that board

Go through your adjustable variables, you can find one that will disable shutdown due to encoder and another for velocity error, These should keep you running until you get a real fix.

Can you get detailed fault info on the faults, ie demand vs measured velocity when it faults?

The faults are very intermittent. Every couple of days. Are the adjustable variables for shutting off these faults in the safety processor? I've been through both displays and haven't seen a disable function. I did raise the PTIM timer, to the max. Setting that was in the manual. And raised the (can't remember the exact name) velocity limits when the car hits terminal slowdowns.

I want to say under car options. I'll check next time I'm at a Galaxy job. It's been a wihle, but I do remember these being on a traction job. Maybe they aren't on a hydro, but I'll check anyway.

I think the parameters I sugested are for traction jobs only. At any rate verify the reader head alignment is correct, and post up with the exact faults you are experiencing.

Knock on wood, this unit ran all weekend! I might have gotten lucky with the parameter changes I made last Wed.

Just out of curiosity has anyone else used a galaxy hydro controller? If so, how do they compare as far as price, being installation freindly, and relatability when compared to MCE, smart rise and ECC? We have installed and maintained a few of the galaxy traction controls with good results but have yet to use the hydro product. Just wanted to get some input.

We have put in quite a few. They seem to add about 20 new parameters every time I adjust one. I think they are on par with the MCE 4000 series stuff. They are easy to work on and have good prints. The tech support sucks although it was great when they first came out. The tape reader is a mechanical POS. The starters they use suck and are undersized. We typically use these on duplex apartment units 350 ft/min or less. I have done a larger group with these and had no problems. I have not done any gearless on this system but really it wouldn't be a problem since they use drives that are industry standard. So I guess it comes down to pricing.
