We have a DMC-1 with electronic door protection and after being held opened for 20 sec it closes on nudging. Should or can the door open button reopen the door when closing on nudging. When the door open button is pressed the door stops but will not reopen. The detector is connected to the electronic eye connection and the safety edge connections are jumped. We did reverse these connections and the door goes into nudging but will not close while the detector beam is broken. Thanks

It sounds like someone removed the old mechanical edge and photo eyes to install a electronic curtain. This should be shown on the print.

The doors were designed to timeout and go into nudging. When in nudging, the doors will stop closing when the mechanical edge or door open button was pressed.

They will reopen the doors.

It's a guess, I think they wired the electronic curtain to the EE circuit. EE will allow the door to close in nudging. In this condition, and this is my opinion there is a risk. If my elderly mother was in the door path I would want the door to stop closing. If no one pushes the door open button how will it stop...

Sorry rough night...
I read your post again and I see you said it was connected to EE.
When the car goes into nudging and you press the DOB, is the audible alarm still sounding? If it is, then I still feel that the electronic curtain should stop the door from closing as well...

Do you have a fast tool to check all your door adjustments?

Has these doors ever worked properly? Is it a new unit you have started maintaining? Did you install the door protection? What is the history?

New unit we started maintaining. These were installed and always work this way since we took it over.

Sbrmilitia,
How would you recommend to set up an electronic curtain on this type of unit? Has a hardware update come out for this type of retrofit?

Wouldn't this simply come down to the regs? I say this as, here back in the day when fenders were still the mainstay on doors, the whole point of a nudgeing facility was to encourage passengers to get out of the way and let the doors close slowly. When the advent of the electronic fenders(curtain of light) came about, most of the time the nudging facility was disengaged because the units beeped incessantly when in nudge mode even if the doors didn't close over. So in this example it simply depends on what the regs allow you to do. If they allow the doors to close, open on nudge from the open button etc then that's what you should follow. The most simplest way for these is for the units beep on nudge, but not close over if your worried about hitting anybody and getting sued.

Poons, when the car goes into nudging, the doors are restricted from re-opening, they will only stop if the door open button, or safety edge is activated. this is normal operation per the software. it is in the sequence of operation manual.

All DMCs I've had on my routes always had Pana 40s but Ive seen in my parts manual there is a expansion board for this purpose. You would have to do a software change too.

Poons, also see if limited door reversal is activated.

Sbrmilitia,
Thanks for the feedback. It's been several years since I've worked on a DMC.
