We can't figure this one out. Telephone type relays. Car runs fine floors 1-5. Will only take an up call from 6th floor and it runs up to 7, opens and closes doors. Car stalls on 7. Will not take a down call WHILE ON FLOORS 6 and 7. Will not take a car call or hall call in down direction.

It sounds as if it is out of step. Sorry the only westinghouse hydro I have we haven't modernized are 2 3BC-HYL's.

Am I understanding you correctly?
The elevator responds to all the car and hall calls for landings 1 - 5?
And fails to stop at 6th landing for a car or hall call. Then stops short of the 7th landing?

Make good choices,

Thanks so much for reply. I obviously didn't explain well. You are correct in your first assumption of my analysis --- the car will run all day in hoistway between 1-5. It will stop at 6 or 7 for a hall or car call then it will NOT come back down from 6 or 7. It will go up from 6 TO 7 but will not come down from 6 or 7 to any of the lower floors. All calls latch from lower floors or inside car, but the car will not move. Probably not a door problem since it will go from 6 to 7 (will go up).

Follow the 81D circuit. If the direction pilot relays (81D's) don't pick on a reversal, car calls won't latch + it won't answer and reset a down call. I'm assuming it's a 7 stop? What happens if you drop 81U's manually? Will 81D's pick? SIngle car? Sounds like an interesting problem, never seen this one in particular. I would also look at the SO relays, it's happening at two floors though...

E-man has given you sound advice.

Monte,
If you're familiar with the 2BC-HYL? How are the G275 and the 2BC different?

JKH - not familiar with the 2BC-HYL. My guys tell me the D's pick -- even from the 6th and 7th floor when given a down call. The good advice E-Man gave is we will drop out 81U manually and see what happens. We may not have done that. Any other advice or ideas would be appreciated.

I remembered that this G275 system is the one you said a resistor smoked on a PCB?

Somewhere on the controller, usually on the side of the cabinet or the front top right corner is a metal looking sticker/tag with the GO#, manufacturer date and system name.

Thanks. we fixed the resistor problem that was a door problem. We have the GO # also -- the owner wont buy the original prints from Adams / Schindler. So we are kind of flying blind but we'll get it.

This sounds like a classic hook circuit/FH contacts on an Otis selector. It sounds like your direction setting is common to landing and car. Since you can do this fine from level 5 down, I would be looking at the wiring between 5 and 6(because this is clearly where the breakdown in continuity is happening)and the contacts in this area. Also since the lift goes up form 6 to 7, you can then agree, that the hook circuit in this area is ok, but since it wont go down from 7, it is clear there is a break in the circuit to the down direction set relay.

Look around 5 and 6. Clean all contacts around these floor level relays and let us know how you go.
