Hmmm, hoistway door just opened with no car present? Escape hatch not secured from the top of the car? This smells rotten. Hopefully, the mechanics responsible for this unit do not get blamed. Maybe for the unsecured escape hatch, but that probably helped in this situation. Possible booze at the game sounds like a more logical explanation.

Lets hope the escape hatch was the keyed sort of lock that does allow for interior opening. As for the doors opening, only power hoistway doors I have personally ever been around were freight doors. Hope the giant issue of jumpers across hoistway interlocks doesnt rear its ugly head again. Fenway being an older ballpark, wonder if those doors were a manual type? Anyone from the greater Boston area able to add any info?

The local news here said that the car was on the second floor and the woman was on the fourth floor and went through the open hoistway doors and fell down the shaft onto the car top. Let's hope the woman is OK and the elevator personnel are not to blame.

Otis just took over the contract from schindler a couple months ago , it was on a passenger elevator with 2 speed side slide doors , so what I'm gathering from my fellow local 4 brothers is that it sounds door related, either gibs or the fast door made up and the slow door never closed. Grasshopper ? Still some speculation out there. We shall see

Any explanation yet on what caused this?

Since it was a two speed side slip did the slow door come unrelated?

I take these doors don't have the safety lip to drag the door closed(if it becomes loose)? If so then shouldn't the slow speed door have its own landing door electrical lock to stop the lift moving?

if the relating cable did indeed break, why would someone enter a darkened hoist way through a door that was only half open? This ones starting to smell. The options seem to be Horseplay,Jumpers,or a death wish.

It's not too hard to figure out why someone could go down the hatch with a car not there. Broken chicken leg, broken gibbs? My point is they already know, wonder why we haven't heard yet?

I have found an article relating to this accident!
The article stated that a massive force led to the door opening.

for some reason the hyperlink is not generating properly!

From the article:
"
One elevator door was pushed open with such force that the door came off its bottom tracks and was bent inward into the shaft, the department said.

"A force in excess of 225 foot pounds was applied to the bottom section of the door, so the door actually swung into the shaft like a pendulum," said Massachusetts Public Safety Commissioner Thomas Gatzunis said.

The door was pushed open with more force than one person would be able to generate, the department said, referring all other questions about who might have done it to the Boston Police Department.

"It's more than someone kicking something," Gatzunis said. "The average person cannot achieve that kind of force with a kick."
"

Sounds like a rowdy group probably had too much to drink and unfortunately someone got hurt.
