Has anyone had to change the guide rollers on one of these units. I need some advice on these. Last time I changed any, it was so labor intensive we would have been more cost effective to change the whole lift. Thanks for all your help.

W,
First way to keep your price reasonable, don't buy the rollers from TK!

Colson (800)215-8220. They have them in stock...

Next, we cut two access holes. One on each side. I cleaned the cutout edges and welded a plate lager then the cutout to it. Then we filled the gap with bondo. Sand it smooth and you are good to go.

Thanks for the help. I did a similar procedure to get mine out as well. It was mounted in a closet with "no" room on either side so it was a ton of fun!

JKH,
Do you happen to know a part# for the 6" Cheney rollers from Colson?

I came up with quite a few drawings from this period but I couldn't find anything on a HL-4747. What kind of unit is this?

I'm trying to repair a Cheney Handi Lift 2 for free for a local church. It is a 110vac single phase 3 station unit. I've repaired all of the peripheral wiring and interlocks - so that now the up or down relay is activated correctly by the station call and lift buttons, and safety switches defeat them as required. I do have a schematic for all of the peripheral wiring but not the internals of the control box and motor connections.

Despite this, the electric brake and motor do not activate in either up or down mode. The screw and mechanical aspects of this lift are in excellent condition - if I manually release the brake the platform gently glides downward.

The motor is a 1/2 hp Baldor 56C frame(but apparently custom) with the following spec: 34-4487-466 That spec shows up on the Baldor site but their link to the wiring diagram is not working, but it does show the same info as the NEMA plate on the motor. I did send in a query to them but so far no response.

I'm assuming (without any schematic) that somehow the electric brake and motor are in series - so that if one fails the other will not work. Getting to the inside of the control box is a bit of a challenge but can be done - I was trying to avoid this if possible.

Any suggestions or help on the motor or wiring would be appreciated. And my schematic might be helpful to muggzy65 as my wheelchair lift is from the same time period - late 80's.

The correct replacement from Colson is 5-6-936. I ordered the 931’s and they don’t have a recessed hub on the one side.

Did the rollers on one of these last week. Our third in the last two years. First unit other guys took a long time pulling the carriage out of the top, second two lifts we also cut access holes just small enough to remove the bolt that secures the roller in place. If you can fit safely beneath the lift (with blocking) to reach and change the bottom rollers, you can cut your holes low enough that they don't interfere with the lateral bumpers. Too high and those side play bumpers drag over your holes and fail. Our lower cuts on the last car were 18"AFF. Whole thing took 3.5 hours.

I have 2 of these repairs coming up. These are a 6" roller correct? I can find the 5.00006.931 colson # on their website. But that was it. Tinman says this is not the right one. The hub is different. Also how pricey are we talking? Access has them for $342.00 Is colson cheaper? Thx for the help. Not looking forward to this repair. I am going to do the hole access in the side though.
