I've learned that a service mechanic was killed yesterday in Santa Monica while responding to a trouble call. I don't know this mechanic but I was told that he has been in the business for a long time.
This is just a reminder to all of us how dangerous this business can be and even a veteran mechanic can be killed if they're not careful. Sometimes we get real comfortable working around these machines and we forget that they can do unexpected things.
Condolences to our union brother's family. As for the rest of us, work safe out there and always expect the unexpected!

If you work for a small company or a large company and they do not have a documented safety program, not just the Field Employee Safety Handbook, I recommend that you get one or hire some one like myself to administer it for your company.

An OSHA investigation into an accident or worse yet, death with the fines and and fees as well as the fact that not having one allows your insurance carrier to deny the claim will likely put you out of business.

Go ahead and give your insurance carrier a call and see if they will cover such a claim if you do not have a well documented safety program. (Now is the time to find out.)

Burnham and Associates has now been bought out by JM associates. Better to double check your coverage before they send you a non-renewal notice.

Respectfully Submitted,

Speaking of Burnham and Associates, are there any other reputable insurance carriers out there?

Be advised that JM Associates, formerly Burnham and Associates, is getting out of the elevator insurance program. Just did my commercial renewal and it didn't go too well with a crystal clean safety record.
