Guys ,
My boss sent me to survey some units yesterday turned out to be Dover T-IV 6 stop with HD 91 door ops. I have told them I would only be interested in taking them on if they provide me with the correct tooling . Am I correct in saying the World electronics freedomware is the best thing on the open market ? What are peoples experiences with it ? Is it reliable ? Does it do everything you need to do ? What's the after purchase support like ? Is there a better alternative ? .
Would appreciate the input guys . My boss is so tight he once dropped a nickel and it hit him on the back of the head as he bent down to pick it up so if I'm going to persuade him to part with 3500 bucks and a laptop then I need to make sure it does the job !

Hi pieman,

Our T-III/T-IV tool has been proven to be very reliable and well liked in the 17 years we have offered it. The customer feedback we have received in that time is our tool is phenomenal. If you have some specific questions as to capabilities feel free to give us a call at 1-800-523-0427.

Have a good day!

We can help..............

Just make sure the T-IV software has not been updated to Tac 50 by Thyssen. If it has the World Tool may not access the units in which case it would require IMS Thyssen Tool.

Thanks for the heads up rolly. So with that in mind , is there anyway of telling what version of the software is installed without purchasing either tool first ?

Try logging in with HyperTerminal on windows XP, see if you can get in. Various passwords but most common is "DOVER TIII" without the quotes and all caps. Set HyperTerminal to com port number and baud=1200 Data 8 Parity None Stopbits 1 Flow control Hardware. If you can't get in then it is probably updated. Look at the chip labels on CPU board also. If DOVER may be ok, if Thyssen, it is probably IMS only. World tool does make dover easy if your not familiar with commands.

Most TIVs do have software that you can use IMS with. It does not disable Hyperterminal on its own, only if the CPU has been updated to a JC5 will Hyperterminal be disabled. On TIII and the oldest TIVs we just use Hyperterminal, it's really all you need, especially if it has the video monitor to see inputs and outputs. Unless you still need a tool for DMC and World sells as a suite or something.

I have very limited experience on Dover ( mostly DMC ) but have spoken to a few people in our company who say HyperTerminal does fine providing you have a list of commands etc... Which they do and can share . My big concern was the ability to conduct safety tests . I think the first thing is to see if I can get HyperTerminal or an equivalent ( I have been told there is a freeware programme called putty that does the same as HyperTerminal but works with later versions of windows) if I does then that should be enough for now . The world software does seem to have a more user friendly interface and if it came with a suite for all Dover controllers I would still consider it but I believe you can only buy in modules , 3500 for T-III and T-IV and a further 4000 for DMC . That's hard for me to justify for a handful of units when there is an alternative for the cost of a serial cable albeit more limited .
Thanks for the advice guys .

You can get Hyperterminal for free too. I've tried Putty, Teraterm but had better results with Coolterm. Hyperterminal though is the only program that I have been able to get to work on everything, the way settings are given don't translate as well to the other programs. If you are going to use a USB to Serial converter, get the Keyspan USA-19HS. As far as capabilities, you can do everything with Hyperterminal. The Dover TIV manual is written for use with Hyperterminal, we have no special interface.
