I have a Smartrise control with a magnetek HPV 900 drive with a regen drive on a gearless Torin machine and I'm getting a overvolt fault on the drive in the up direction empty car. The job has been turned over to the public for about 2 weeks now. When we first tried to run this car on auto during the mod we had the same problem but it went away . Now it's back has anyone any suggestions.

What kind of Overvolt fault? A DC bus overvolt up empty would suggest a dynamic braking or regen problem while a line overvolt would most likely be a building power issue.

I ended up lowering the inertia parameter to 0.50,did a realign of the motor and the fault has not come back in. Now I'm dealing with a vibration in the ropes coming off the machine.

I agree it sounds like a regenerative issue. We have had rope vibration issues with the torin machines as well. I have had issue with the Inertia settings that are set to high causing extreme vibration issues with pm machines that would cause encoder faults. I think as new as the pm machines are in our industry we are still learning there characteristics.

Fortunate enough to have not been forced to use the mag drive yet. Had a yaskawa drive doing the same thing, I had to adjust some of the parameters. Typical 50-04 had the voltage monitors seperate, two of them, I usually change them to 15 and 5, does the mag have these too? if they do try adjusting those pots.

spent a lot of time this week with smartrise and magenetek trying to get rid of clunking noise on the stop and starts. For the stop, I had to enable ramp to stop paremeter which solved the noise when it stops but the noise when it takes off is still present. I kept telling smartrise we need to put juice to the motor as the brake lifts then enable the movement. I hate doing their R&D but it seems that's their game plan. So it ends up the engineers at smartrise have no way of adding pre-torque to a pm motor, Magenetek has a new software for the drive but they want an extra for it. I bought a package that was supposed to work but it doesn't and the customer is furious that they spent all this money and it sounds like Crap where the old PDQ control worked without everyone in the building hearing it.

I have done pretorque/load weighing on Smartrise and Magnetek using a pm torin machine. Shoot me an email for more info Thomas@elevator411.com

Hi,
Overvoltage faults are usually problems with the dynamic braking resistors either being open or not sized properly for the job. Empty car up or full load down generates voltage back to drive. Drive dumps excess into DBR bank. if there was no vibrations prior to adjusting inertia, call Mag to properly size resistors and put inertia back to original settings. If vibration was there originally, look to remove springs from CW side of cables if you have springs on both sides.

Best of luck to ya!
