Job Specifics:
MCE Job# 96-12262 VVMC-1000 Series with VVC-2 Black Box for Motor Generator
Duty is 3000# @ 350fpm
OTIS MG

Symptoms:
Black box faulted out.
Reset black box and attempted to run car on inspection.
Black box immediately faults out again.
No matter direction provided by controller, elevator briefly attempts to run down then black box faults out.
Verified proper up and down inputs going to the black box before tripping.
Checked MG armature to ground. Megs 280K (normally not a problem for this vintage)

All indications from our end point to a failed black box. Had an informal phone conversation with an MCE friend and based on the information, he tends to concur. According to MCE tech bulletin 142-A dated 1/19/2015 Replacement Stock was depleted and parts for repair were not far behind.

Question is where can I get this repaired or buy a replacement?

What fault?

In 2017 we had a similar issue. Started out being a motor field calibration issue per MCE, but soon after, the box failed as you describe with the black box “safety” input shutting the car down as soon as a direction was picked. MCE did repair the box in 2017.

Just had one of those repaired by MCE a couple months ago. $1900.00+/-. You'll have to call them and get a notification number, they won't do jack with out a notification number.

Tell them it's obsolete and sell them a new drive and ac motor. Get rid of generator.
