Hi All,

Looking for a writeup on adjustment or part repair on these. Did one safety test and it worked. All the remaining tests after that, not enough slide and counterweight bounced them back off. Heard of a recall on these after 4 tests. We have a 2000lb car balanced at 50%.

Thanks.

Remember some safties are designed to work at rated load and Gov tripping speed. If these are older Otis 5C or 8C this could easily be the case. Tripping at rated load at rated speed will not produce the slide an over speed will. When I was an Adjuster at Otis I had to go to a large building with Gearless and do runaway tests. At rated load rated speed the bounce was so hard the service department was running tests and pulled the Tape sheaves out of the pit floor. They were fine at gov tripping speed. Get a copy of State or City forms from last test and see what they did. Not sure why your balanced at 50%.Otis usually used 40% on Geared and 42.5% on Gearless. Later years they started a 50% overbalance on some Gearless and they had additional speed control to compensate for the increase from 42.5 to 50%.
