which phone is better? it seems to me like wurtec phones fail very quickly based on our revolving door like constant replacement rate, are tre or ems phones better? do they all offer a line powered and bldg powered option? seems to me like these phones should outlive the elevator before it needs to be moded. they are used about once a month for testing or during entrapments...

Lift George,
I have a few University elevator with all EMS. The only time I have any trouble is when a building is struck by lightning. EMS has always responded quickly to our needs, support, ordering parts and shipping. And yes they offer both options for power.

Make good choices,

JKH

I've had so many TREs, that I'm not sure if they have a high failure rate, or if it just looks that way because of the volume of them we've installed.

The far fewer EMS, and Wurtec phones I've used, seem pretty solid.

TRE/EMS both are good. The only problems I have had are with the volume/mic ujustments. It can be fixed by turning the screw adjustments to right, then left. Test and set the levels...

The older Ktech phones that are still around and available are a great option. You can run multiple phones off 1 dialer with good clarity. Had some issues with a couple of them over the years. You call the helpline and get the owner right on the phone to talk you through any issue you may have. Sometimes "smaller is better"! Furthermore there dialers and phones seem to be compatible with most other manufacturers diapers and phones.

Janus has a toll free number to call that will ask for the phone info, number to call, and message if any then calls back the phone and automatically programs it with all info given. The phones work well and no real problems with them. Tech support if needed is good also.

You would think that at this time in our lives, that an elevator phone would be a no brainer. Hell for the less then the cost of most elevator phones, you can get a smart phone that will almost wipe your @#$#. Elevator phones should just work, There should be no issues with these units. I kind of like the janus idea where you call and they take care of the rest. I usually don't deal with phones, but I can see where taking a couple of hours to read the manual and try to set the damn thing up can be frustrating to an elevator mechanic that already is overburdened by the sheer number of units the big companies are expecting him to take care of in 1/2 hour increments, all in the name of more profit for the share holders. uggggghhh

Hell I can remember when half the alarm bells in a bank didn't work... Remember 8 car banks of DMR's with NO phones, and if you had an emergency you only had one alarm bell in the pit for all 8. It was up to you to figure out, which one of the 8 had a trapped passenger.

Damn...This Makers Mark is kicking my ass...LOL..

Haaa, Now that brings back more memories. Cant remember if the inspector would red tag all the elevators if the one bell stopped working. Makers Mark always makes me smarter, just can't remember what I fixed. LOL Sounds like you are having a great night Mr. Sheave.

We use WEBB Phones on all our Mods now. They install easy and in the ~500 units we put in over the last few years, none have failed.

Check em out

WeBB Elevator phones

I have used the EMS phone system and found it to do the job OK.
