Im with you on the board, that is probably not the problem, but you never can tell. are you sure the tape guides are not sloppy? when you say the Switch tree contacts "seem fine", what does this mean, have you metered each switch, have you opened the cover on the up switches and check out the connections. they used to put a spade connector on the switch , and the wire would break at the connector, it would be made up most of the time, when the roller switch hit the cam, the switch arm would move and open the broken wire. this is a common problem. sounds like you are using the world freedom tool by the fault description. when the car is in fault, do you go to the selector subsystem and check the fault there? it would be different then going to the CLC fault list. You should get a better fault description if you go the selector subsystem. another thing to check is to make sure no one has installed a low oil switch and wired it in series with the valve coils.
