Hey guys,
Anyone have answers to lowering/removing extreme static discharge when hotel guests hit the call buttons on the upper floors (floors 2-4) of a hotel? The elevator landing area as well as the corridors have carpet and in the winter months, it really gives a big static charge when guests hit the call buttons. It doesn't happen/not near as prevalent on the first floor as it's all tile in that area. We have one TKE Endura 35 II A and one TKE Endura 25 A MRL Hydraulic TAC32 elevators with standard stainless steel trim and stainless steel call buttons at each floor.

You could ground every hall station to the building steel, or switch the buttons out with plastic ones, but they suck, had a problem like that years ago, we just grounded them to the duct work which was attached to the building steel

Grounding won't help. The faceplates and boxes should already be grounded. I think the biggest problem with static is low humidity. You might ask the maintenance if any thing could be done. I have the same problem in the wintertime in my own house.

Another option that is commonly used on bronze buttons to prevent oxidization is a clear insulating conformal coating on the buttons.

Might also want to apply to face plate as the static is discharging to ground. Ask your service mechanic.

Unless the hall station is low voltage, you should not isolate it from ground.

Had to add additional grounding on 2 jobs because I kept losing hnb cards with carpeted floors. Fixtures were bonded to the box only. This was mentioned by tech support after everything else was eliminated. Lost 2 cards in one week once. Problem went away after.

Had the same problem , asked the customer to get the carpet sprayed with anti- static spray , it definitely helped
