Came to a job to do new rack chains. Escalator runs both directions in normal operation and down on inspection, but won't run up on inspection. Makes an attempt (kinda) then contractors drop out. No faults are being registered and I have zero experience with this model. Service tech said he's never had an issue on inspection before, but we've only had this job for a little over a year, so not sure how many times he's tried it. Can't even find the inspection circuit in the prints and they are pretty basic.
Any ideas?

Could be a bad key switch. Have you tried running up on inspection from both ends?

Yep. Just don't get it. As I mentioned, it runs up and down normal, down inspec, but no up inspec. I have the same issue at both upper and lower switches. P1 relay comes in, but about the time P2 comes in everything kicks out and it won't run. No issues with P1 or P2 in the down or on auto Up/Dn. Even tried swapping relays to be sure it wasn't a flaky contact. No change

I had the exact same thing on an E5000 HR. Ended up recording the LEDs on slow motion with one phone then same on a working unit with another phone. Went through frame by frame and I think you could see the key switch off position monitor go back on for a second before everything dropped out. Ended up being key switch wiring. I’ll have to find a print to refresh my memory of exactly what was going on. This did it from both key switches too.

Thank for the info. I'll see if we can find something along those lines. We tried the video thing on just this controller to see what changed state and when, but good call on the slo-mo thing. Never thought about that.
We have another running unit beside us, but this is a mall food court, so I won't be able to check that controller until tomorrow morning.
I'll post back if we find something.

Don’t have a print but do have a manual. I think I remember, it wasn’t the key switch wiring, it was induced voltage on CTR_KY input. They’re 24vac inputs so super susceptible to induced voltage. If you’d pull the CTR_KY wire when you turned the inspect switch it would run. After finding no actual wiring problems I put a 10k ohm 10 watt resistor from the input to ground and it never did it again. (may not actually be ground, don’t have a print)
