I have a lot of DMC's at a campus on my route. We upgraded a few cars to the TK HD-LM's in the past. I have a down car and repair department is telling me that TK is saying they're obsolete now. I know GAL won't work/communicate.

Anyone know of a door package that will communicate with a DMC?

Honestly it's a bit asinine to just replace the door operator. The GAL is the way to go and it won't interface with a DMC directly but if it needs a whole new operator it really should be time for a full mod of at least the controller, selector, fixtures, door operator and traveling cable. And if your doing it right, tank unit.

If you just need to fix the operator why not replace the door card and door motor? That's 90% of the operator besides a couple pulleys belts and arms.

Thanks for the input. Would love for them to modernize, that's not up to me. We can't get ahold of door cards right now. Not sure if anyone has seen their lead-times lately....were told a year from TK. I think they have one coming from World.

You have DMCs with HD-LM operators that have a 6300PA door board in them? I didn’t think that was possible, the PA boards do CAN and RS485 but not DMC 485. Do you have any documentation on this?

I would agree on modernizing the whole unit. If they think lead times are bad just for the door board wait till you need a clc or selector board and if you need replacment software your really going to be in trouble. Being proactive will save a lot of headaches.

Plus with the serial communcation it wouldnt be possible to use a different operator anyway. Its my understanding DMCs could only use a HD series operators, if Dover ever had a job with non standard operators like freight doors or a MOD that used a different door operator they would have to go with a IBM relay or LMH controller.

Vertcal Express has a linear operator designed the retrofit the existing Miami Elevator HD door hardware (shaft door equipment) It's called LD-16. It cam support both serial and discrete communication It's escentially the same Wittur door operator found on KONE MRL units, but designed to refit older Miami Elevator/Early TK units. You can also buy one directly from Wittur, which are sold under the branding SGV and AMD. Here's the link: https://verticalxpress.com/media/download_files/component_manuals/ld_16_udo_mod.pdf

They also have a version where you can use the existing Miami Elevator HD clutch and just replace only the drive: https://verticalxpress.com/media/download_files/component_manuals/ld_16_door_drive_kit.pdf

In today's day and and age, I strongly do NOT recommend the use of mechanical link (harmonic) door operators. They just don't have all the modern safety features the new style European linear operators have. All the major companies have since discontinued using them, leaving GAL as the last man standing making old-style mechanical harmonic door operators. They need to stop. North America should follow the rest of the world an outlaw them. They are just too outdated and don't work as well as linear. This is not an opinion. This is a fact.

To learn more about why I'm a grinch about harmonic operators. Check out my link. http://www.vatortrader.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=33378

As far as I know, the serial adapter board for the LD-16 still doesn’t speak DMC. It does 485 like Tac20, Tac50-04 and CAN.

There should be a way to interface a DMC with it using the discrete logic. You may need an adapter board. Although I've never worked on a DMC before; however, I have seen a few Miami Elevators w/DMC from the 1990s installed in Northern VA, equipped with GAL operators, which was only discrete during that time.

DMCs don’t have discrete door IOs. As stated above, when a discrete operator was required Dover installed a WCR or an LMH. It’s possible Miami was using some special contract software that had door IOs on the expansion board but I’ve never seen Dover do that.

Dover and Miami sold the same stuff. This is because they were both owned by the same parent company, Dover Corp.

JJR : Have you installed the ld-16 retro kit? How is the reliability of this retrofit vs. the standard LD16 and all its required upgrades.

We are currently modernizing 3 DMC units. They are getting new tanks (maxton), Alpha controller, fixtures, and operator
In reality it would be great to do the entire linear setup as you mentioned, but its not happening.

Options retaining car side and hall side.
1. GAL MOVFR modified to work
2. LD-16 retrofit kit.
3. Make Alpha compatible with a new HD operator board, motor..

We modified an 60's Otis operator recently for an MOVFR and retained the car side vein and hall side components. A bit tricky to get the fit but its works well.

The better the effort, the better the result.

Here is a photo example of our Otis modernization to GAL. Im sure there will be critics but it work well. We retained the car side components and hall side.
The door bracket should be positioned a bit higher but we have not had an issue.

We have done that numerous times also on the Otis units.

DMC. One of the bullet proof elevators out there. Just like Otis 211. World is hit or miss with there boards. But Access will repair boards and quick too. I’ll attach door boards documentation

Just like any other elevator once you work on them for a while they’re really easy to trouble shoot. Only if you can get the boards. Now that’s the real question
