Anyone else having problems with the Category 5 tests and the MX10 machines not being able to hold 125% capacity with just the primary brake?

Trying to order new brake pads from Kone Spares and they say you need to replace the entire brake to the tune of 5000 bucks each. crazy... before we try that expensive option, want to make sure i'm not missing something. the car drifts as soon as its at 125%. it doesn't look like I can adjust the brake voltage either, which I figure increasing the voltage a bit could help.

Measure the air gap between the brake lining and the drum by sliding a feeler gauge round the air gap.

some info here:

link see PM.

Increasing the brake pick voltage is not going to help hold 125%… Adjusting the air gap as tight as possible might. It’s also really important on those brakes to be adjusted squarely meaning that air gap is even on all sides.

I've had to replace a couple of those. They were a bad design, not adjustable other than air gap. Take it as small as you can, I believe it's in the neighborhood of 2 to 4 thousandths.

Once it's not holding it needs replaced. Check your ebrake too...

I think what he indirectly means by 'increasing the peak voltage' is that he tightens the nuts to increase the spring force, which in turn will require a higher peak voltage to open the brakes.

I realized after I posted that the pick/hold would have nothing to do with this. It is the unadjustable spring tension and I think you guys are right in that if I cant make it hold at 125% at 2.5 thou, its time for a new brake. And tighter than 2.5 thou seems to drag and squeal with ambient temperature changes...
