I've had them installed on my jobs. First and foremost, check piston and replace packing. It's a PIA afterwards. I've seen one guy take about a week but he had to go buy everything he needed as he went along (fittings, pipe, straps, connectors etc.).

I would say a week for your first one. Ive only done one and thats about what it took with testing. We also moved the tac to the top of the hoistway as it was a wet pit. This was early on and they may tell you to install them there now.

I've seen 4 and all have tachs at the top. Some guys installed one on an old Otis hydro and the jack blew out 2 months later.... so they ended up having to buy a life jacket then a jack..... they (Sears) ended up tearing the building down a few years later only to build a new building.

Life Jackets don't address the underlying problem.

If you have a jack that can blow out, then you have an EPA issue with oil leakage into the ground. Why wait for it to collapse, and hope the LifeJacket will be working properly when it is needed to preserve life? Best not to rely on a stop-gap measure, but rather, get to the heart of the problem, and fix it right. Best to remove the old jack, replace with a new one in a PVC sealed secondary containment. That fixes the core of the issue, and doesn't cover it up, like a LifeJacket does.

Yep understand the sugestion to replace the cylinder , the elevator is on an island and we think we will not be able to redrill in the ground , it's an old building .
The other solution we have is to install a new elevator , cut the roof of the building , take everything out and install a new MRL .
Thanks

We have 3 life jackets in the back of the shop that came off single bottom jacks that the owner was going to save money on!! And now they have new jacks anyway.
