The ESE board stands for "Escalator Safety Extension" board, located in either the lower, or upper wiring junction boxes. It communicates with the main processor board in the main controller through serial link, and some discrete wiring.
The various safety switches at each end of the escalator come into their relative ESE boards, and there are LEDs on each input, that indicate if the switch is active or not.
Kone puts ferrules on the end of their field wires, that spread the spring clips in such a way that the wire falls out of the clip with the slightest vibration. All you have to do is jump up and down on the floor plate, and some of these units will just shut off. Then you check the ESE board, and find that one or two wires just backed right out of their sping clip terminals.
