Complete shot in the dark here, but wondering if any of you gentleman work in the Charleston, SC or Myrtle Beach, SC areas?

Prospective apprentices got our rankings today. When I reached out to the Local, they said companies don't really let them know anything until they actually need someone, so it's tough to say how quickly a list may move.

I'm not THAT far down the lists (14th-16th), but a rep at the local said it may not be until the first part of 2018 that I could get a call. Sound about right?

Got my rank as well with local 135. That's a great rank you got. Im 46th. I would like to know more on how fast these these lists move. A year from now doesn't sound good to me.

With these rankings keep in mind that they are for specific region of the local, ie: Charlotte has a list, Charleston, SC has a list, Myrtle Beach has a list. A 14 in MB could be equivalent to a 60 in Charlotte and a 25 in Charleston. It really depends on how much work is out there.

Jeff24 good to see that you went for it.

Thanks,Hog.

And guys, you may actually be in much better shape than I am.

If those are your Charlotte ranks. My rank there was 82! Devastating. I think my background (white collar work) did me no favors.

Pretty sure Charleston or MB, are my only hopes, since so few selected that area. You two probably have a quicker route to work

Reached out to NEIEP. The local may have the info as well.

When I spoke to the local, they seemed receptive to monthly check ins, to see if numbers have changed, but said they definitely don't enjoy being peppered with a ton of calls all of the time.

The NEIEP coordinator will only have the initial rankings.

If you want to know if the list has moved (new 50%ers hired) call the local office. Do not call more than once a month.

Charlotte is super super busy, that list will move.

Lee, Skater,

Either of you guys reached out to the Local, or heard anything?
Really curious to know how these lists are gonna move.

I'm worried a 14 or 16 in Charleston or Myrtle Beach is going to mean nothing, as they will never hire that many.

(Recently got a 33 in Jacksonville, which covers Tallahassee (sp?), St. Augustine and more, and the rep there said they will not even get close to hiring that many over two years)

i reached out to them about a week ago . in the email it said i was in 17th place.

when i called him he said i was on the list in line like this:
3rd for Charleston
2nd for greenvill
2nd for Colombia
4th for myrtle beach.

but i think they will hire everyone on the list. the list in Savannah for example had to do another job drive within a year because they hired everyone from the list.

I certainly hope that's the case. I'd feel pretty good if I could get in touch with the Local and get a comment like that.

Skater, not sure if you monitor this board still, but I meant to ask you last time I was on, if it'd be possible to give a little update once your number is called -- seeing as how you'll be first off the board among this group.

It'd be nice to get a sense (any sense at all!) of how the respective lists may move. I reached out to the union one time since my initial call, and only got through to a voicemail. Until I know some folks have come off the lists, I'm going to be paranoid that we'll never get down far enough for me to land a spot!

Yeah. Certainly aware of the hours. I've since followed up and did get through. Turns out -- no surprise to you, seeing where you're ranked -- the list has not moved very much at all.

I think one came off the board in Myrtle Beach and maybe three or so in Charlotte.

Unfortunately, I was left just as in the dark in regard to what a 14 could mean in Charleston. Was just told, it's all up to the companies, and there is no way of knowing.

Was really hoping something like two-per-month could come off of the Charleston board. Not looking feasible after one month (SMALL SAMPLE SIZE, I know. Ha).

They did say they expect for things to pick up the most around the start of next year (not sure why).

Thanks for the update, skater! My timeline has me calling again in about two weeks.

So, going by your numbers, that would mean: In 45 days, more or less, 15 have come off the list in Charlotte, two in Myrtle Beach, and one in Charleston. Interesting.

That's not too discouraging, I guess, if that equates to a "slow" period. I was really hoping to see Charleston and Myrtle Beach average two drops each month, which would be a timeline requiring a 7-month wait for me.

Looks like you'll be getting a call SOON!

I got my call from Jacksonville Florida last week but with military obligations I'm still not able to work it yet so for those of you on that list, they've knocked off at least one.

Congrats skater and Jeff, I hope you get a call soon.

That's awesome Skater. Congrats man! Took a little longer than I expected for you!

I was able to land 7th on the Savannah list. So, I'm still hoping work picks up either there or in South Carolina.

Good Luck out there, man! And hope you get something worked out, blakjak.

Congrats Skater. Just called and seems my rank hasn't moved from Charlotte in the past month. I am still at 34. Hoping this list gets moving. If anyone finds out different keep us updated! Good luck!

New to the forum. I also interviewed in Savannah and received rank 15. I think my lack of construction type work didn't help me any. Have been a Firefighter for the last 12 years. Hoping to at least get a call within the next year.

I know two mechanics for Otis out of Charleston in maintenance and repairs.. They have said Otis Savannah will be hiring 3 or 4 in August for a big job on Hilton Head. As for Charleston he said they are swamped so the list should be moving he is really unsure why.

For those who got a rank for Savannah, have you heard anything further on the Bahamas lead? I had gotten an email about it before I got my rank.

Thanks for the new info, Jon!

I hope your contacts are correct, on both accords. That'd be awesome. The news wasn't as optimistic when I called about a week ago.

In Savannah: Was told the list hasn't moved, and there is actually a guy on the bench, so everyone is, effectively, one spot lower in the rankings. He also said there just aren't that many working in Savannah, so wasn't sure if the list would move much at all.

In Charleston: Was told that the list hasn't moved since Skater was called. It's moved 3 people in 3 months. I asked if he expects that pace to pick up and the union rep said "Not looking like it."

Sorry to say this guys but you will drive yourself CRAZY calling and asking about where they are on the list.... When I was waiting on the bench when I was part of IUEC they were stuck on 10 for months and I was 12.... They will call as many people as they need for a project then stop ... and they can stop calling for helpers for a LONG time... especially if someone gets laid off and gets put in front of you ... I have heard of guys that were number 6 on the list and sitting on the bench for more than 6 months! It's not worth the stress to call in that often , plus when they do call you almost have no time to give your current job any notice...

Skilledbutcher73 I hear you. But for every good rank and long wait I hear about. I know about a bad rank and a short wait. Lots of variables to it. I'll stay optimistic.

Thanks for the update, Jon. That would mean the guy on the bench and #1 were picked up in about a month. I think it's a bit too optimist, but I'd like to see that two-per-month movement continue.

Been more than a month since I've called. So I had no clue what Savannah looked like, and still don't with South Carolina.

Charlotte is still pretty busy.. couple of high rises comin up within the near future so we seem to be pretty steady. We are doing work all the way up in the Boone area now have a job that will keep me and my mechanic up there for about 2-3 months

Thanks for the update chuggins25. My last call to check was about a month ago. I was informed that big jobs were expected to be coming in Charlotte around January and February.

Just heard from talk they are about to do another recruitment in Myrtle-Charleston area only. I have talked to a bunch of guys in Charleston that they are blown out with work. Myrtle has 2 ocean front hotels going up as well. Charlotte is still busy, I'm up in Boone doing a job for App St. freezing our asses off. Hopefully this will help you guys out a little knowing a new recruitment is coming up, or either for some other guys looking to get in. Should be up around January so keep checking! If you have got picked up work safe guys!!!

That's great news chuggins25. A new recruitment for Charlotte was recently posted for December 26. I am curious what that means for myself already being in the Charlotte pool. Not quite sure if I need to re-apply and start over or if it is good news meaning more recruits are needed to add to the previous applicants pool I am in.

Just got a reply back from the local. No need to re-apply but will receive a date for a re-interview. Shoot for a new rank in comparison with the new recruits with the possibility of dropping back to original rank.

I chose Charleston and live in Charleston. Pick a place as if your willing to move and except that spot. They said if you turn down employment with a city you choose it will clear your name from any other city you chose.

You have Ashville, Charlotte, Greenville SC, Myrtle Beach, Columbia, and Charleston to choose from. Might be forgetting one... Basically the entire state of SC and Charlotte and Ashville NC. 135 Local covers a big area.

Felt my interview went very well. They said rankings will be sent out by the end of the month.

Sounded like they needed people in Myrtle. They said the Myrtle list was empty and has been for a few months and they need to hire people. Hopefully the list will be out by Saturday or Monday.

Not sure if Charlotte has more than 1 day of interviews though. He said only 24 interviewed in Myrtle and around 120 in Charlotte. But the turn out isn't usually that great sometimes he says... Which really blows my mind.

With a few days of interviews then late next week would probably be more likely. What all lists are you on?

Charlotte, Asheville, and Charleston! All look like great places to live and work there.

Charleston is a great place to live. If you get a call to work in Charleston message me and i can direct you in areas to move. I moved to Charleston 10 years ago from Dayton Ohio area and never looked back.

I ranked 11th overall. 5th in Asheville, 6th in Charlotte, and 2nd in Charleston. So looks like Charleston in my ticket.

31 overall for myself. 20 Charlotte. Last recruitment a year ago I was ranked 49 Charlotte. 30 were hired before the cut off and this new recruitment. Might give everyone an idea of where your at.

The list for Charlotte was not empty before they made a new one like Myrtle and Charleston. So it most likely wont move as fast.

OK thank you. Just completed the recent recruitment process and receive the results after the interview. I am 5th overall and 4th in Charlotte. I didn’t really know what that meant or how long it might be before something becomes available ?

That’s a great rank. I’m sure you will get a call quicker than you think. Maybe give them a call in a few weeks and see if the list has moved.
