There is another interview ? What? The way I understood it was this was the only interview for the apprenticeship. I mean when a company calls the union for new recruits, the union sends people out to work for them, and then you have to apply at that company. That's mostly just for taxes and stuff, there's also a drug test.I thought that as for this kind of interview, that's it. There is, however, always a surprise somewhere, I guess, right? As for how many days they have to go, till the end, that's going to be any ones guess. Since my last name starts with a C, and they are going alphabetically, my guess is, that they are not anywhere close to done yet. I would say three weeks maybe more. I didn't ask about that while I was there, sorry. Hope that helps.

Oops I lied I know that this whole process is not necessary. If this is what the dues that I am going to have to pay are going to be used for then I might just need to rethink this whole process. or someone needs to tell me more and helps me to come around because right now my confidence level in the people running this whole operation is not very high. Actually, the company foots the bill for NEIEP. Well, with your ranking, the confidence of the people interviewing you wasn't high either.

From what I’m told Otis will be hiring enough to put together 50 crews so if that’s 3 apprentices to one mechanic that’s 150 right there and that’s only one company 3 per one mechanic might be stretching it but good for a solid 100. So I’m not sure why the secretary said 100 tops, from what I have learned that’s just not true. From the NEBA Agreement: "Article X Par. 2. The total number of Helpers, Apprentices and Assistant Mechanics employed shall not exceed the number of Mechanics on any one job, except on jobs where two teams or more are working, one extra Helper, Apprentice or Assistant Mechanic may be employed for the first two teams and an extra Helper,Apprentice or Assistant Mechanic for each additional three teams.Further, the Company may use as many Helpers, Apprentices and Assistant Mechanics as best suits his convenience under the direction of a Mechanic in wrecking old plants and in handling and hoisting material, and on foundation work. When removing old and installing new cables on existing elevator installations, the Company may use two Helpers, Apprentices or Assistant Mechanics to one Mechanic." Rule of thumb: One Mechanic One Helper.

“ Ithink it's just how well you grade. Dont think experience has any on role. Maybe osha 10 cert, which I have. I know someone who got a 93 and they were in the 80s. Not many points separate 91.5/109 to a rank in the 60's... I'll assume he got a 94 or 94.5. That tool assessment was also part of the interview grade... an excellent group of people took this test in Vegas.... nothing we could've done about that. “Applicants will be scored based upon Education, Work Experience, Oral Interview, and Tool Assessment, and will be placed on a ranked list, with the highest scoring individual being placed at the top of the list. All applicants of the results, and applicants will be placed as apprentices based on their rank in this pool of eligible candidates. Applicants not selected for employment will remain on the ranked list for a period of two years. Employment as an Elevator Constructor presents an extremely challenging, yet highly rewarding career to individuals with strong ambition, solid skills, and a willingness to learn. Our Apprenticeship Training Program provides highly qualified mechanics to an industry that insists on superior quality and craftsmanship. We wish all applicants the best of luck as you apply for work in our industry. “ - local 18 website

Shoot I got an electrical "tech math" cert, 1 year of electrical experience, welding school I just started, a rigging cert,OSHA 30, forklift cert, twic cert, Rso cert. Tool assessment was easy, I guess I messed up the easiest part, the oral interview..

Travis, general rule of thumb is one apprentice to one mechanic. Yes, on bigger jobs they will sometimes have a floating helper or two, AKA 8 two man crews may have an additional 2-3 apprentices on the job site. Just because there are 18 elevators in a building dont assume that's 18 crews. Up in my neck of the woods we would do it with around 5 crews, depending on tme and space constraints.
The good news for all you Vegas guys is the legalized marijuana. We have had so many in the top 20% fail drug tests up here. Without knowing the true work load, or quality of applicants, I would think if you score in the top 35-40% of that list, you have a decent chance at being called within the next 12 months.
For those outside that number, of course there is Crap to do. Go get some sort of education that relates. Welding, go learn hydraulic theory, be proficient with hand tools, including metric, hoisting and rigging, learn how to tie a knot. Education is the biggest, no one can ever take that from you. Go test in another area. This isn't a job, it is a career....get in, do well, and you and your family are set for life.

As an update let me tell you all that I just got off the phone with Joe Boswell..he explained to me that they are at most going to hire 50 guys, maybe up to 75, so beans you are in luck, however for the most of us he made it pretty clear to retry again in 2 years. Travis and dro idk what you heard, but at the same time what I don't understand is why would the list be so big (345) if they were only going to hire 50-75 at most??he didn't have a response to it so still kinda confused on this matter..oh yeah I forgot, he said I'd the last list they only hired 30 new hires.

on the previous list in Las Vegas, I know it took 9 months to reach the teens. That does not bode well for us, but I believe something will be different this time around... Hope so brotha

How much notice is typical before time to report? Anyone know? You got to report that day they call you, if your out of town you have time it by calling to see what number there on.

I thought I was going to get at least a report the next day. This might be tricky for me then as I'm 4.5 hrs away. I don't want to come out too early but I'm down to do whatever it takes. Anyone got a room for rent? I understand man I'm from the Bay area so I I'm in the same situation.

Im in the top 10 for Las Vegas and no call yet... They have 3 big projects gearing up so I am guessing soon. Be patient.
What are those 3 projects? I thought the list would be moving by now

For anyone hoping to get in this year, I heard its gonna be difficult. The fiscal year for the companies end mid December, so obviously they limit spending as the fiscal end nears. But once the new fiscal year starts, they will hire the next 100 guys off the list. They may call 2 or 3 before the year ends, but 100 in January. Sit tight... like I said earlier, they've called only 2 and #1 did turn it down.

They told my testing group "50-100". On 17 after about 5 months, so about 82 in 24 months would be on rate for 50-100 range. Hopefully I get in by the 2nd year cut off mark.

If you call and hit the number for the receptionist it goes to her voicemail. I'm speculating that the receptionist is on vacation or out of office. It is possible they went to screening calls and you have to leave a voicemail to get a reply. Would be really cool if they could just post what number the list is on, even if it was once a month. Or even better if their phone system had a number you could press that would just tell you the current list number so people could call like crazy and it wouldn't bother them. Probably too much money or they don't really want the info that out there. That's what I was thinking too, would be way more convenient for everyone.

I'm just going to put this out there. It is hard to start in Vegas with nothing. No one wants to rent to you without having paystubs in state that you dont have yet. Im stuck paying 6 months up front and still might not get the crappy apartment because I dont have rent history in the last year because I own my place. If anyone gets the call and needs some help getting started in Vegas send me a pm and I can try to help you the best I can. On another note the people at the hall and company I work for are great so far. Appreciate that offer firealarmpuller, unfortunately I don't think I'll be making the Vegas list this time around

Rique925 are you going to try for Los Angeles? They posted the date recently. They are only accepting 1000 applications. Yeah man I sure am! Might be in Seattle by then though hopefully. In the 40's now👍

I’m not sure if this is a good sign for us but a buddy of mine just got called to run a job in Vegas (raiders stadium) for the iron workers union so maybe things are progressing on that project and we might get to check a few off the list for us soon 🤷🏼♂️
