Hi everyone. New here and was hoping I could get some advice. Currently work for a water utility company and have a great job here in NJ. TONS of overtime and potential to make 120k+ but for jersey that’s still scraping by. But it’s a gairenteed job and will always be.

Been trying to get into iuec for a few years now and decided last year to try out for local 80 North Carolina. Love the south and always wanted to live down there. I tested and interviewed and just got called by thryssen to move down and start my career down there.

Just nervous if the work is steady. I can’t be getting laid off a few months after I get there. I have a family as well. Anyone from local 80 on here ?

Not from local 80 , but there’s no guarantee you won’t get laid off ... I left California to join in Colorado local 25 , got laid off from Kone 6mo in all because they didn’t hire a mechanic on the bench and they had temporary mechanics working so the union pushed everyone back all because they weren’t following the rules, not cause work was slow. So it can happen, I was only off for 4 days but it can happen any time as a probie... and your not going to make 120k for awhile probably min 5yrs. But this is the best trade to get into if you make it ! Just moved my wife out here after 8mo so maybe that’s an option for you as well , fly home on weekends till you know it’s the right choice for your family. Hope this helps...

Since you got the call you don’t have to be there the next day ?

No they’re allowing me to take the pre employment drug test up here and then we’re gonna work out a start date and when I can relocate.

If you don't mind me asking, what number were you on the list? I'm waiting on a call and curious where they're at. As far as layoffs go, I don't have much information to offer. With that being said, the guys I know in local 80 seem to have held their jobs for a LONG time and seem to be really happy. Congrats man!
