Hi guys, 1st time user. Car level almost stalls in down, shoots thru in up almost can’t get back down been thru controller twice top to bottom. Seat gen brushes works perfect. Gen been rebuilt twice. Runs fine for 3 to 5 days seat brushes back to perfect. Any help greatly appreciated!

This really sounds like a 14 & 15 contactors issue. Check, clean, or replace them, then adjust compounding.

I had this same issue after we had a generator armature replaced. I made small adjustments with the brush rigging assembly. Loosen the set screw and facing the front of the generator tap the assembly counter-clock wise in small increments (1/16- 1/8). This corrected the stalling before it reached the floor in the down direction and overshooting in the up.

That may work but you really want the generator running on true Neutral. I always set neutral when we get a generator back from the shop. You would be surprised how far off it is sometimes. It’s more accurate to use a 6vdc source and a center reading millivolt meter but 120vac and a digital meter will get you close. Only then should you adjust the series field taps and compounding. It doesn’t hurt to check the quartering of the brushes either if you are having mixed results.
