Get Screwed
by christycollett on 02/12/16 01:20 AM

Haughton was pushing these things out the back door back in the late 50s early 60s. Going to school in Toledo so we had a tour of the plant. There was one large lathe that had a hole in the wall lined up with it. This was the lathe they used to turn the screw on.

Guess, not a bad idea until hole in the ground filled up with water, dead rats or hypo needles.

Cool! Did they install a lot of them in that time period? I've seen screw drive on wheel chair lifts and stage lifts but never an actual elevator.

What happens if you loose a motor or belts while the car is in the pit? Was there a manual crank in the over head like the screw drive wheel chair lifts have? lol

Very unusual elevator. Does the screw go into a hole in the ground (like a hydraulic elevator)? Is this a residential or commercial elevator?
