Took the EIAT this past Wednesday, no idea about results. The reading comprehension and the mechanical comprehension I feel pretty good about, but the math kills me. Some people can see the numbers and make sense of it and determine the solution. I just don't process it the same way, I suppose. I think I nailed the tool test, though.
Now the waiting begins. Trying to get in the local 37 in Columbus, Ohio and I haven't seen any mention of that local in the forum yet. I will say this particular bbcode is not lending itself well to mobile use.

Anybody else out there in the great wide forums have any experience or knowledge about the Local 37?

I'm also applying for local 37. I passed the test and received a email about interviewing on the 17th.

I'm scheduled to interview the 18th. I am concerned about the apparent lack of stable work, if I don't have stable income then I can't pay my bills on time, and that's a big problem. I'm tempted to interview them just as much as they interview me. If this career is as rewarding as it sounds, if I can get stable work then I'm in. If not, I don't think I can take that leap. My family comes first. The roof over their heads, the food on the table, that comes first over any career.

Does anybody else have similar concerns over the stability of this trade? Anybody have anything to assuage those fears?

I completely understand. When they asked those 20 questions and the 2 that stood out for me was 1. This job doesn't guarantee full time work and 2. You understand that when we call you have to leave your job without giving them notice. Those were 2 big red flags for me because like you I have a family but the opportunity to double my pay in 4 years would be a game changer for my family. i interviewed yesterday and it went extremely well. They asked me 7 questions(the same 7 questions they will ask everybody). I wont share them on here but if you search on the elevator reddit website they listed almost all 7 of the questions. During the test did the test proctor explain to you that you probably won't be laid off almost ever in this field? I think the only time this trade experienced issues was 2008 which was pretty much a great depression like scenario. Also he said that you have to make the most of your opportunity when you get called, which means don't make a bad name for yourself when you are working with a mechanic which will probably get you sent back to the hall. I have seen it with pipe-fitters at my current job. A young guy shows up to work with a pipe-fitter and makes a couple of mistakes and doesn't complete work as fast as the journey wants and they don't bring them back. You have to impress the mechanic as much as the union.

I'm ranked 26 on the list and I called the recruiter today and he said that they wouldn't start pulling from the list until the first of the year. I received my ranking a week ago but I thought they would at least start hiring off the list.
