I am currently a contractor for coal mine construction. Due to the outlook on coal in the next 20 years I am looking for another career. I applied this morning for the local 17 recruitment, I had a few questions regarding the job. What exactly do they mean when they say “extensive travel” is it more of like in the surrounding counties or like pipeline work where they stay out of state for weeks at a time? I drive over an hour one way where I work now so a little drive isn’t a big deal. My other question is what are the hours like? Is this a 40 and done or 80+ guaranteed or does it fall somewhere in the middle, and is OT common and/or mandatory? The last one I have is, is it shift work or commonly a 6:00 to 4:30 situation? I don’t think any of this is a make it or break it just trying to get an idea what I am in for. I am certainly anxious to get started. Thanks in advance.
