I remember when I went for the Dallas list, they said something about if you apply at another local, you don't have to take the test again, I think? Can anyone confirm that? I may go for the Austin local too, lots more friends and family down there compared to DFW, but cost of living sucks in Austin.

Just be open minded to travel, and you will not have any problems. Getting in is the key, you can transient to another local later if their work picks up and it is closer to "home".
I am local 19, if I travel to the center of our primary, it takes me just over an hour. To hit the northern reach of our primary is an 1:20-1:30 and coming home from that ungodly area would be a 2 hour drive easy. Don't even get me started on if it's a Friday or holiday, or if we started later, say working 8-4:30. I have pulled over and rented motel rooms for 3 hours, solo unfortunately, I have had dinner at strange hours just to let traffic clear, I once went in and watched a movie to let the worst of it pass.
Point is, it's not a job, it's a career, it's a trade. It will take care of you and your family financially all on its own. Imagine not requiring your spouse to work, and still being able to afford a nice home, two cars, vacations... THATS what this career can afford you. What sort of sacrifices are you willing to make? A bit of a commute? Being yelled at when you screw up? Being yelled at when you just look goofy? Buck up, check your feelings at the door.

I received my interview date a few days ago. I'm really excited and I'm looking forward to this challenge. Good luck to everyone who's going through the process and thanks to anyone who's already in and comes here to give us some tips or encouragement.

I got my ranking in Richmond. Took 18 days to come in. I expect I'll get a call sometime next year or never. Who knows we'll see.

Nashville is booming right now. Check out all the cranes downtown. They have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year apps probated which means we don't have enough journeymen mechanics for all the jobs, so all the probated guys are getting mechanic pay and running jobs. Just call Tim at the hall and he can keep your updated, he's a stand-up guy. I work at Nashville Machine Elevator by the way. Good luck

How many would you think are on the Norfolk 52 list overall? I was ranked number 5 as of two weeks ago. Hoping I get my call soon. Seem likely to hire 5 people within the next year and a half??
